This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of February, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [287].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Drs. Lydic and Parker, nurse, and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 12:00 Noon - Eastern Standard Time. …, Ohio. (Physical Suggestions)
-
EC: Yes - [287] - this body we have had before. Now, the changes as have been augmented by the system’s reaction in the purely medicated forces, has not WHOLLY been good.
-
There needs to be some attention given to the teeth, for puses come from same in system.
-
Those conditions as have been distressing in throat, especially in the lower end of the esophagus and in the stomach proper, and the heart’s action, show distress. These, we would find, will be better by the MANIPULATIONS given [osteopathically], and by the stimuli FOR the heart’s action in that of mild or minute doses of Digital, or Digitalis. It’s not ORGANIC in its nature! Hence the manipulations and corrections as may be made osteopathically, especially in the cervical and upper dorsal, would prove most beneficial. We would keep up, however, for the stomach [for the white lead colic effects?] - so that the eliminations may be made properly from the whole of the intestinal system - those of the olive oil and of the saffron.
-
The manipulations we would give at least twice each week.
-
The Digital would be in small quantity under the supervision of a physician. This may be reduced as corrections are made.
-
The teeth should be attended to, so that the system is not filled with these poisons of pus accumulations, which is NATURALLY hard on heart’s action.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/7/30 He wrote: “Your last rdg. rec’d. Had an x-ray of all my teeth and as result had three upper front teeth extracted, and found one badly infected with pus, and one on either side in bad condition.
“I am following your instructions and do hope to get out of here soon, and will keep you posted.”
R2. 3/24/30 He wrote:
“I have your letter of March 15th and beg to advise that I am gaining a little every day, but I still cannot walk more than about two squares until I have that heart palpitation, but not nearly so bad.
“I have followed your instructions except I have not taken the digitalis. Dr. Cooperrider says that he would not recommend digitalis, but since you do he thinks it would be all right. Dr. John Thomas and Dr. Fisher of this city would not prescribe the use of digitalis at this time.
“However, if I do not improve faster soon, I will get the digitalis myself and take about 5 drops. Would you think this would be about right and how often.
“As I have written you before, I just feel fine when I don’t move about. My only trouble is that I cannot walk, and of course I could not work at anything that requires much exertion.
“I wish you would let me know by return mail about how much digitalis I should use. Your doctors there could probably answer that for you or advise you to that effect. I am sure I need the treatment as you have suggested in order to get the relief.”
R3. 4/19/30 EC’s letter:
My dear Mr. [287]:-
“Please do not construe my silence as negligence or unthoughtedness, but I have been very, very busy - had to be away about the time your letter arrived - was in New York on a little business regarding the further developments going on here with the institution - came home to find my father very ill with pneumonia. He hasn’t allowed me to be away from him for about ten days or two weeks. I’m glad to say, however, that he is better now, and we are hoping on the road to his normal health. The last few days we moved him to the hospital. During his more serious illness he was here at my home, and we had two nurses with him day and night, also the Doctor was with him most of the time. So, you know just how it has kept me tied down.
“Certainly am in hopes that you are continuing on the improve. I’m of the opinion that, as the information was suggested, it would be the proper thing for you to do - possibly you have already done so before now. Know that I’m anxious to be of help if I can, and should conditions not be as satisfactory, just as soon as I’m able I’ll be glad to do whatever I can. I haven’t been able to do anything for about two weeks myself, so I’m pretty well run down. I want to get away for a little rest in the next few days. Don’t know just what the chances will be. Haven’t been able to do any work though, for myself or for anyone else.
“Let me hear from you. Please remember me to all the folks. With kindest personal regards, I am”
Sincerely,
EC:GD
R4. 5/2/30 Letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
“Received your letter a few days ago. Am sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I presume you are just overworking yourself.
“With reference to the digitalis, I waited four or five days after writing you the last letter - I then started in taking five drops three times a day. I have not taken but ten drops in the last week and am holding up fine. I can now walk without any distress at all. I will wait a week or ten days, and if I continue to hold up without taking digitalis, I will write you a letter worthwhile.
“Hope this will find you in good health again, and I beg to remain,”
Yours truly, [287]
R5. 7/11/30 He wrote:
“It has been sometime since I have written you, and will advise you as to my general condition at this time. Glad to say that I am feeling real good and can walk and get about without my heart breaking down, but I still have to take 15 drops of digitalis a day.
“However, since I have heard from you, I have been very much worse and hardly able to leave my home. My folks insisted upon seeing a Doctor here, a Dr. Fisher. He at once gave me digitalis capsules. He thought that I might take too much of the liquid. He also took my blood pressure and said that it was back to 200 - had been down to 150 three weeks previous. He said the capsules each contained about 15 drops. He also gave me medicine to reduce the blood pressure. I got worse every day until I stopped taking his medicines and went back to your digitalis, or in the liquid form, also took the olive oil and saffron tea, and am glad to say that I am feeling fine and can walk now without hurting me, but cannot as yet stand heavy exercise.
“I also have gone back to taking the Turkish bathes, and I am going to stay by your treatment, and eventually I feel that I will be back in good health.”
R6. 8/12/30 “I believe now that I am in perfect health again. However, since last Oct. I have not been able to do anything and, as I have written you before, could not even walk up my stairs without stopping and resting two or three times. I could chop wood now if necessary, and all thanks and praise to Edgar Cayce.”
R7. 10/29/30 “My last letter to you stated that I was feeling real well again, and able to look after my work. However, I only lasted about one week. I had gone over to Indiana, but had to come back and seemingly was about as bad as I had been at any previous time.
“At the time, I learned that you were away on your vacation. Mrs. [Mr. [2]‘s wife] advised me.
“Dr. Cooperrider said that he thought that I should consult a specialist on heart trouble and he recommended Dr. Barnes. I did go to see Dr. Barnes and he made a thorough investigation, and finally said that I was in perfect condition except the Coronary Artery was impaired. That was causing my trouble. He took a picture of my chest, and in that way he determined the trouble. He has spent one year in Europe recently studying troubles of the heart, etc.
“He advised sweats, one a week, just as you have done except you did not say how many I should take weekly. Also gave me one remedy to help this trouble. He says my heart is all right and that I have no trouble except this artery.
“You did not mention this artery, but you did prescribe about the same treatment, especially the sweats. Now, I am wondering whether this Doctor is right about the artery trouble. This has been about a year now since I first had the attack and the sweats have always relieved me, but in about a week I would go back again. However, I have been gaining a little all the time, and if I take a Turkish Bath I can walk anywhere for four or five days, than I can hardly get up stairs again.
“I just wonder if I should take a Turkish Bath every day for awhile as I did when I had the eye trouble. I believe you will remember that I at that time had taken a sweat for almost every day for two years. [See 287-1 Reports.]
“When you have time, I would be glad to have you tell me whether or not it is that artery that is causing my trouble. While you did not mention this in your reading, it might just be possible that the treatment that you prescribed was for that purpose, and I believe it was for the reason that I am always better when I take sweats, but you did not say how often I should take them, hence I only resorted to the sweats two or three times a month. Otherwise I feel just fine, and today I can walk anywhere without trouble. I took my last sweat on last Saturday. It seems to be holding up a little better than it did some time ago.”
R8. 11/7/30 “You will find enclosed a medicine prescription given me by Dr. Barnes.* I have taken it for three weeks regularly three times a day, and as yet I can’t see where they are benefitting me any. I will also enclose one of the pills.
“The only thing that does me any good is Turkish baths, one every four days, then I can get around all right.
“This will be just a short letter.
“Hoping to hear from you soon.”
Yours truly, [287]

R9. 11/13/30 Letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:-
“Have your letter of Nov. 10th. and beg to advise that I will be at home Monday afternoon, November 17th.
“The particular thing I would like to have you inquire about is whether or not my Coronary artery is hardened as Dr. Barnes claims it is, otherwise he says I am in perfect condition, and as I have written you before, if I take Turkish baths about every four days, I can get about all right without any trouble at all, and if I don’t, I can hardly walk at all.
“The first trouble that I had last October, [See 287-7] a year ago now, was altogether different. It then seemed to be in my throat or wind pipe, and my stomach seemed to be out of order, but the saffron tea and olive oil and other treatment that you prescribed at that time did relieve that condition entirely.
“Would be glad to have you stress on that artery proposition, also whether that prescription that I mailed you the other day would be of any value for me to take. So far it does not seem to have done any good. As I have said before, sweats are the only thing that does me any good.
“Yes, I did see Mr. [2] the other day, and he was mighty sorry that he had to come home, but his boys were out of work, and he could not stand the expense, but he thinks the world of you and says he will follow the treatment at home as near as he can. I told him if he could not get a Violet Ray machine, I would loan him mine.”
Yours very truly. [287]
“P.S. [1866] was at my home last night, and she seems to be getting along fine. And by the way, I have gained five pounds in weight in the last four weeks, and I am taking the sweats from 1 1/2 hrs. to 2 hrs. at a time and still gaining in weight. That does puzzle the Doctors here.”
R10. 11/17/30 EC gave his Ck. Rdg. 287-9.
Background
Background
B1. 12/3/23 He obtained 287-2 for after effects of white lead poison.
B2. 10/29/29 He obtained 287-7 for pain in chest, later asking if EC thought it was a result of the old lead poison trouble. EC advised him to resume taking the saffron tea and olive oil as first suggested for the lead poisoning.
B3. 2/22/30 He verified appointment, saying: “I have been feeling very much better… Last evening I had a bad attack. Dr. Geo. W. Cooperrider [M.D.] thinks I should enquire about my heart condition, also my dentist says that I should have three teeth extracted - the three upper front teeth. Dr. Thomas John Thomas, M.D.] of this city is, too, of the opinion that there is something wrong with the condition of my heart.
“The trouble in my throat seems to be all right; that, as you remember, was my first trouble [when I obtained 287-7]; otherwise I am just feeling fine; appetite is good; there don’t seem to be any trouble with my stomach at all [as in 287-2, etc.].”
