EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
Now as we find, the acute conditions that have disturbed the body arise from an OVERSTIMULATION through the treatments administered.
-
Yet these as we find in a MODERATED form SHOULD be continued. Not the full same character, of course, that brought about such an acute disturbance; but that which would relax the body, relieve the pain; and eventually keeping with these we will find, as has been given, if they are followed properly, the greater and the better results coming to this body in bringing about near to normalcy at this time.
-
Then, we would again have the Osteopathic Adjustments but not the same character - until the body had regained a better equilibrium.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How often should they be given? (A) Every other day until conditions have begun to adjust themselves, and then they may be once a week - or have them for two to three weeks every other day, then leave off for two to three weeks, and then have another series.
These have been indicated.
- We are through with this Reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/4/37 Husband [228]‘s letter: “[313] has been through a hard siege since Sunday a week ago. She is better but still in bed. Now I will start at the beginning and give you step by step her condition.
“As the August reading [313-10] advised, she planned to go to the doctor. We inquired all over town about the different doctors trying to find a gynecologist.
“Thursday, September 23 she went to an M.D.’s office who had been recommended very highly. He looked at her uterus and told her it is twice its normal size, and he put some pressure on it and tried to move it, but it didn’t move, so he said go home and take hot salt douches for two weeks to shrink it, and if it didn’t shrink in two weeks he would have to turn her over to a surgeon as it would be a surgical case.
“We talked it over at lunch that day. She was very much up in the air. We decided to go to an osteopath, as one of your readings had mentioned that either a medic or osteopath would do (Reading 313-9, Par. 8 of 2/26/37). So we found there were two osteopaths in town, brothers, who had dissolved partnership a year ago, about whom we learned in the classified section of the phone book. We decided to look them up, with the result that we chose the younger one [Edmund T. “Pat” Flynn, D.O.], about 30 years old. His sign on the door said that he was also an M.D. (which is a requirement of Florida law). “She told him what was wrong and he assured her that he could do the work. He gave her a twenty minute treatment at a later engagement that afternoon, Thursday, September 23. He told her she would be sore on Friday. Well she was not, but her intestines emptied themselves completely Friday. She went back Saturday the 25th for the second treatment. He was astonished to find that she was still not sore, so he gave her a more severe treatment, apparently.
“Sunday morning about 5:30 the pains put in appearance. Not a sign of trouble or soreness had been noticed up to that time. She awoke at 5:30 with severe pains and for two hours we worked on it without even trying to phone the doctor (osteopath). We concluded that the treatment was bringing on a forced menstruation. She toughed it out all day in continual pain, but by 11 P.M. Sunday, her nerves were getting so bad she called the doctor in. He made light of her condition, but gave her a hypo that night. She rested easier, but no sleep.
“The next day the pains came back. He gave her a codeine pill to take when the hypo wore off, if she required it. She did not take this until Monday night about midnight. She suffered throughout the day Monday and slept none, although she did rest, with a little pain in the early hours of Tuesday, but still no sleep.
“Tuesday afternoon the pain centered in left ovary and left hip. The pain was tremendous and continuing. The doctor, in response to my phone call, sent around some codeine tablets about 9 P.M. No relief was noted so we called in the doctor about midnight, but all he did was talk and quiet her, and said that all he could do was to let us continue giving the codeine the rest of the night at intervals. Her nerves quieted some, although the pain did not let up, and she continued not to sleep.
“Wednesday she realized that the menstruation was starting. Pain in ovary never did stop. The doctor had given instructions for her to take hot douches of LORATE three times a day which she had taken the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before, but were discontinued on Sunday when the pains started.
“The doctor had made an engagement for us to go to his office Wednesday afternoon at 6 P.M. for a treatment on the electric therapy machine, which he did. This was the 29th. He had said this would relieve her pain.
“We thought that this would be in harmony with your reading of Monday, September 27 [313-11], about which you had wired us.
“Regardless of her menstruation I took her to the doctor’s office in the car and parked right in front of the building in which he has his office (on second floor). He gave her twenty minutes treatment with the electric machine.
“To revert somewhat. On Sunday she discharged blood; Monday ropes of thick pus all day; Tuesday bloody pus; Wednesday menstruation.
“She had a very severe night Wednesday, during which she took no dope.
“Thursday was a very hard day. At 1:30 P.M. she had crying spell. At 6 P.M. slight chill, likely from nerves. Cried again. Took four sleeping tablets that night without effect, except perhaps a nap or so of ten or fifteen minutes. She did sleep Thursday afternoon perhaps half hour.
“Friday A.M. at 4:20 she suffered the hardest chill imaginable, lasting about thirty minutes. Called doctor, although chills stopped just before he arrived. He gave her a hypo (although he seriously objects to giving them or prescribing dope).
“She had a couple of short naps during the day Friday. Ovary pain was continuous, which we finally checked early Saturday morning by using hot water bottle on top and electric pad to back and hip on left side.
“On Saturday she took several short naps, but with a somewhat nervous condition flaring up once in a while. She had vomited off and on throughout the week and had slight desire of food, although she ate by force at each meal time. She rested considerably Saturday.
“Saturday night she experienced not much pain and slept intermittently but highly nervous at times. Menstruation checked up.
“Sunday morning she felt very good. Slept over an hour along about 8 A.M. By noon had nervous condition and unable to eat meal brought to her. Ate small supper. Weather turned many degrees warmer, which was annoying. I tried to get her to sleep Sunday night, last night. She did not, however, sleep at all last night.
“At present (7 A.M. no pain and quiet).
“The doctor has continued to state that what he did did not bring on the trouble. He admitted that it brought on the menstruation, but not the other pains. He wants to use X-ray. [313] is not willing to take anymore treatments from him of any kind. Have not told him about you. Do not believe he will accept it, but he may try to be stubborn.
“[313]‘s trouble now, when in pain, is in left hip, which comes and goes.
“Please tell me what you think of all this. Do you think she needs any kind of nerve medicine and can you recommend some kind that will break up her sleepless condition?
“In case we correspond with you later this will serve as a history of the case to date.
“We have a splendid colored nurse during the day while I am absent.
“Soreness continues in abdomen from doctor’s treatment.”
R2. 10/6/37 EC gave her a check reading 313-12.
R3. 10/6/37, Wednesday night, husband [228]‘s letter [not knowing that the check reading 313-12 had been given that afternoon]:
“[313]‘s condition up to Monday was given you in our letter of the 4th. All day Monday she suffered from nausea, and the doctor had given her antacid to try to get her to retain the solid food which she had been trying to eat at his suggestion. At 4 P.M. her common sense told her she ought to get rid of that food, so she took a half teaspoonful of soda in a glass of water, and it looked like quarts of very odorous matter came up, which relieved her a great deal.
“She had some cream of wheat prepared for supper that night, ate, and retained it. She had a very hard night from a nervous standpoint. No sleep, when her nerves would get up in the air the pains would go all over her back and only way it was relieved was by hot electric pad.
“The vomiting condition had been, up to yesterday, an every day occurrence, doubtless because the doctor suggested her eating solid food.
“Tuesday morning she said ‘No more solid food, as long as I am in the bed, doctor or no doctor, as long as my stomach rebels.’ Thus she cut out the solid food and went on a liquid diet.
“Tuesday while I was at lunch her nerves went all to pieces with the pain in her back. During her several days in bed prior to that she had had at various and recurring times severe pains in her hips, left hip mostly, right hip slightly, all over bowels, left ovary, until menstruation stopped and then to the small of the back.
“She made up her mind Tuesday afternoon she would definitely have to have another doctor. I called an M.D., but he was too busy to come so we compromised on calling an osteopath, a brother to the one we had had. I went to see him and told him frankly before he came what unsatisfactory treatment we had had at the hands of his brother, so he said he would come right on around to our room at the hotel. He arrived at 6 P.M. on Tuesday. [Dr. Emmett W. Flynn, D.O.]
“The first thing he did was to take the temperature. It was 101. Then he asked how much she had been running and our answer was that it had never been taken before. His brother had only taken blood pressure and pulse, not telling us the figure on either.
“He immediately pitched in and started a treatment from head to foot, a treatment to counteract what his brother had done. I asked him if he would mind listening while I read him an outline of my wife’s case while he worked, and he said to go ahead. Without letting him know the source, and eliminating the preliminary openings I read him all the readings on [313] since 1931. He was sincerely impressed and remarked that ‘He surely does know anatomy,’ ‘he’ of course meaning you. It took me about an hour to read them, and he said he was willing to cooperate with anything you said. I then told him many things about you, and he seems to have considerable respect for your knowledge.
“Your readings suggested treatments every other day for a while, which is his present schedule. As he becomes familiar with the case, I am sure he may submit some questions for you.
“By 11 P.M. Tuesday [313] had quieted down and become calm, although she still was unable to sleep until about 7 o’clock this morning and slept about an hour. That was the first night since Sunday, September 2 that she had enjoyed a natural quietness. Lying awake and getting hungry, she insisted on my giving her twice some grape juice which must have been the cause of her losing her breakfast this morning.
“I called the new doctor and he suggested that I get some ‘Eskay’s Neuro-Phosphate’ and give a teaspoonful in two tablespoonsful of water just before each meal, for a while. This was done at lunch today and also for supper, and appears to be working okay, although she did have some distress in her bowels at eating, but has retained her food. Her temperature has varied all day between 100 and 101 according to the thermometer we purchased last night.
“I am planning to sleep in an adjoining room tonight and let her try the bed by herself to see if she can get some sleep.
“All in all just about all the pains have about disappeared, most of which we attribute to the new doctor [Emmet W. Flynn, D.O.]. Her nerves have been steadier since the new doctor treated her. He will be back tomorrow night at 8 o’clock and we hope he will continue the good work that we now feel he has started.
“Having burdened you with much scribbling I’ll now give you some relief by signing off. Incidentally, as I sign this in closing, [313] appears to be sleeping quite naturally.”
