This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of January, 1933, in accordance with request made by himself, Mr. [228], active Member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [228], who is at the office of the … Industries, Inc., …, Florida. You will answer the questions that he has submitted regarding his business associations and connections, advising in each case as the Forces see best.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [228]; this we have had before.

3. We have those conditions in the physical and material way that surround or affect the body in the present.

4. First, in those conditions regarding the body-physical, while these are very good in most respects, there still are some conditions that with care and attention in the present would prevent some disorders which would be very detrimental to the body later on, preventing these conditions.

5. These have to do with the coordination between the eliminating channels or sources of the body. There are the tendencies from old conditions, that have become - in a manner - of a constitutional nature, yet not so set in such as not to be wholly adjusted to the better conditions of the body, that make for disruption in the coordination between the eliminations in the alimentary canal and those of the lower hepatic circulation. If the better eliminations were established between these systems, the body would function the nearer normal and prevent some disorders in the future.

6. To meet these in the present, we would prepare a tonic - compounded in this manner - that would be most helpful for the body:

7. To 8 ounces of distilled water, add:

Wild Cherry Bark…1/2 ounce, Prickly Ash Bark…1/2 ounce, Buchu Leaves…1/4 ounce, Sassafras Bark…1/4 ounce.

Reduce this by slow boiling (and preferably in an enamel container) to one-half the quantity, or four ounces. Strain off. Then, to this add one ounce Compound Simple Syrup.

8. Cut two drams Balsam of Tolu in two ounces of pure grain alcohol. To this add Tincture of Stillingia ten minims.

9. Then put the solutions together. Shake together before the dosage is taken. The dose would be half a teaspoonful after each meal eaten; that is, do not take unless the meal is eaten - and at bedtime.

10. Ready for questions.

11. These, as we find, will relieve the conditions that have disturbed the body; as that with the kidneys at times, the tendency for some swelling after eating at times, sour stomach, belching, bad breath, and an aching that occurs at times across the shoulders.

12. Ready for those questions respecting the business or commercial relations.

13. (Q) Should this body make a change in business? (A) In considering the associations, and the conditions that are existent respecting the associations, many conditions should be considered.

As they have been set for some time, the conditions are as this:

Were the PRESENT associations and connections to succeed in THEIR undertaking, the connections and associations would be WELL, and - as is indicated - be satisfactory in many respects.

If the attempts of the present operators in the corporation are successful in making the necessary arrangements for the re-financing of some portion of the operations, the first portion of the coming month, then we will find that there will be sufficient time given to the operations for this to become a SUCCESSFUL undertaking in more than one of the fields of endeavor - unless some unforeseen conditions arise that are not apparent in the present.

If they are UNSUCCESSFUL in making the financial arrangements for some advancement, and some new developments that are in the action of being brought into being in the present, then we would find that very soon - or within the next six to eight months - there must be some more definite curtailment, and eventual suspension of many of the operations. In that case, then, it would be well that the body consider many of those propositions, or that specific proposition that has been made as connecting with other associations or organizations. While the operations and endeavors would be in a different field, the work of the body itself - or the line of endeavor would remain much in that for which the body is best fitted or suited (which has been given).

14. (Q) Which is mot likely to happen, regarding the company for which he is now working? (A) It appears very probable in the PRESENT that they will be successful in making these associations, connections or arrangements.

15. (Q) For whom, where, and when should he work? (A) Where the conditions are the most favorable from every ANGLE of the work. As indicated, there is the probability - would there be the closing of the present associations - of a real loss to the body in remuneration; and, as has been seen and often indicated, the body is most WELL fitted for this association or connection, as well as suited in the connections and associations with those about the body, and would be for the better arrangements. However, if they are unable to carry on, and there are TO BE the changes, then it would be well that the body make such connections as may be plausible and feasible; but consider the well-being of self and associates.

16. (Q) What should be his action or position if it remains in business? (A) Continue very much in the same way and manner that has gradually been GROWING in the present associations.

17. (Q) If it becomes bankrupt? (A) Then make the change; and be in a position to make the change beforehand.

18. (Q) Should he accept the business proposition offered from Texas? (A) Provided there is the probability of the bankruptcy of the present associations.

19. (Q) What are the reasons for the action that you suggest? (A) These have been given.

20. (Q) In what city should he reside for the best interests of his wife and himself? (A) Those surroundings in the present are very good; these have been helpful in many ways and manners. In MOST places would be very good, provided it is near large bodies of water.

21. (Q) In what business should he engage? (A) That for which he is best fitted!

22. (Q) How should he proceed to place himself in the best position that he should occupy? (A) By best fitting himself for the various conditions or fields in which he is best fitted to serve.

23. (Q) What suggestions are offered for his guidance? (A) As we have often given. Studying first to show thyself approved unto Him that is the Giver of all good and perfect gifts, eschewing evil, keeping self unspotted from the world, KNOWING and DARING to do that that is right in His sight; for, as we have oft given, never has there been seen those begging bread that love the Lord, nor their seed in distress.

24. (Q) Do the inventions on which he has been working have merit? (A) Merit.

25. (Q) Does he have the natural ability to develop new ideas for inventions? (A) This may be developed even to a greater extent than has been shown thus far. It is the natural intent and purpose which has been indicated, if there will be reviewed that in which the entity engaged in many experiences through the earth’s plane! [See 228-2.]

26. (Q) Any further advice that will be of help or benefit for this body at this time? (A) Keep in that way that is well, regarding the mental, the spiritual and the physical well-being; knowing that the mental is the builder, the DIRECTIONS are either from material or spiritual import. Then be GUIDED by that that must bring the greater contentment in the well-being at all times.

R2. 2/7/33 He wrote details of the financial problems of his Company, about several suits - “sheriff to levy on just about all our property…Just about this time our lawyer talked the Vice-Pres. of our company into letting him have nearly a thousand dollars worth of furniture and […] and in a few days the banker heard about that, feeling that the lawyer was anticipating services to be performed for us rather than being paid for what he had already done. At any rate that has made the banker lose confidence in the Vice-Pres., who is the chief executive of our company. I was called up at home Sat. afternoon by the Sec’ty and Treas. to find out if I would accept the job as Vice-Pres., that they would get the old V.P. out before Monday. But Sun. afternoon before that was done the real boss of the works, the daddy of the organization, […] died, at 5:45 P.M., after a brief illness, without, however, being aware of any of the events that I have mentioned. Then today the notice of the … suit against the surety co., and […]‘s body leaving here tonight for … where it will be cremated. …Now what in the heck should a poor guy do faced with these conditions? …At the present time I may be right on the verge of making a most important decision. Do you suppose that you could again come to my aid with a rdg., and tell me what my procedure should be?…

“Incidentally, I have about finished that four ounces of concentrated bitterness that you insisted on pouring down me half teaspoonful at a time, and wonder if it should be continued. The old business place is not the only one that has had additional activity, by way of parenthesis.”

R8. 9/2/34 He wrote: “You will recall that when I was up there in April a year ago that I showed you some drawings of an ignition switch that was pending in the patent office, and that I had invented. The patent was allowed recently, and I am enclosing to you a copy of the patent and also another descriptive sheet that I had prepared about it. I have on hand more than 100 of these blue sheets, which are available to send out to prospective buyers, some already having been sent, but without definitely favorable results.

“Now I believe that if I knew how to get this in use on some make of automobile it would go over, but I perhaps do not know the entire procedure to cause a manufacturer to use it; and that naturally is what I wish to do about it.

“After the Patent Office sent out its bulletin which they publish regularly I received inquiries about it from various sources, even as far as Canada, and from numerous states in this country. Some manufacturers sent me literature regarding its manufacture, and other firms inquired about the price I would take on both royalty and outright sales basis, but these did not seem particularly promising, or were not along the lines I had anticipated. I had a value placed upon the invention by the largest organization of inventors in the world, and in their opinion it should be worth eight or ten thousand dollars on an outright basis, and several times that much on a royalty basis - but naturally that is problematical.

“Now I have concluded that I would like for you to express yourself about it in a reading, if you would care to do that; and in case you believe that a reading of the nature that I require would be consistent with your practice I desire for you to do that as promptly as you may care to do so.

“It seems to me that, in case you will do this, that you would know what questions should be asked, and how the subject should be presented, without any suggestions on my part. If, however, you should feel that it isn’t just the kind of thing you would like to handle, I will then let it drift along along normal lines. I have felt somewhat hesitant about asking this, fearing it might not be harmonious with your desires, but the best way for me to know that it isn’t is for you to tell me.

“My inventive proclivities, if any, give me quite a little pleasure, even if as yet no remuneration. The pleasure is okay, yet the remuneration would be okayer. I have recently originated another little inexpensive device that would have tremendous sales possibilities which I expect to develop, and will let you know about that before long, as I know you will humor me in my hobby. I have come to the conclusion that I have the faculty for putting out about one invention for every two or three years or so.

“If I were to do my switch over again I might make some changes in it. I could, if necessary, make it more compact, and also simplify it somewhat, and could design it for more economical manufacture. I do not, however, intend to patent such improvements, altho I would not mind passing them along to any manufacturer who desires to buy my patent, either on outright, or royalty basis, or both. The present great question is to whom shall it be offered, how, and when?”

R10. 8/7/36 Wife [313] wrote that due to his work [228] had been having to eat out almost the whole year and was beginning to feel the effects of it: “He awoke the other night and said he felt kind of numb all over and it was some time before he got over it enough to go to sleep. That sounded like poor circulation, which he has never had before.”

R11. 8/26/37 He wrote suggesting Business Rdg. 228-10, adding: “And another time let me know how the old body is holding out.”

R19. 9/1/50 His brother visited A.R.E. on his way back to Pa. after visiting [228] in Ala., saying: “[228] is dying of cancer of the liver. He had surgery for a tumor - got better

• then it came back on him last April. He is now in his last days - doctors say only a few weeks. His wife [313] is taking care of him - they’re using the Koch treatment. He had been working until he was too ill.”

I will be in a position where I shall have to make a decision before very long… Also, as a secondary object of the rdg., I would like to have you bring out whether or not certain inventions that I have been working on are worth while, and whether or not I have any natural ability along the invention line.”
