This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 21st day of March, 1925, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [228].

Born November 30, 1887, in Uniontown, Ala. Time of Reading 4:30 P. M. Dayton Time. …, Alabama. (Life Reading Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity here and these relations surrounding same, and the indwelling in the earth’s plane and those relations as are shown and exhibited in the personality of the individual at the present time.

2. In the incoming into the present plane, we find one under the influences of Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Uranus and Saturn. In the relations then as this gives in the present plane:

One that has the ennobling influence in the lives of many in the present earth plane, all for the good, and the influence as is manifested in precept and example is exemplary before the Forces, for the development is in that manner and way that brings the better influence to the individual, yet one seeking to keep much to self and inclined to be recluse in action and manner, and with many brings the not understandable conditions to the body.

4. One that is given to study much into the relation of every force as is manifest in the earth’s plane. One with the Mars influence gives slowness to anger, with the Jupiterian force, yet one holding the grudge in a manner until through the Mercury influence the mental reaches that balance that makes same banished through the Saturn forces as of an earthly nature, and not to be harbored in a mind given to spiritual-mindedness.

5. One who, with the Mercury influence then, studies into the mysteries of the mental forces and the action of physical, in the material world, and the action of physical, spiritual and elemental forces in a material world.

6. One given to think a great deal of the beautiful things in nature and in life, yet not seeking to make them a portion of self, save in the spiritual manner.

7. One given to bring much good to the ones upon whom the entity would give thought and counsel.

8. Then the appearances in the earth’s plane show how these are manifest in the present personality, and why the entity seeks to give such as is shown in the present earth’s plane.

9. In the one, then, before this we find in the time when the first settlers came to the now United States’ shores, in Massachusetts, and the entity then among the first to land in then called Plymouth, and in the name of Alex Alden, and the personality as is shown in the present earth plane, that of the ability not to be shaken in the faith as is once founded in self, except through the mental forces as would show a reasonable action in the premise that is attempting to be established. The entity there we find in the developing stage, and though in the earth plane as only a young man, dying in that time at only twenty-two.

10. In the one before this we find in the early portion of Louis the 14th, and the entity then in the armed guards about the place where the King held the official residence, and among those who defended the principles as were given by the royalty. In that we find the entity then in name of Doran [?] - D. [de?] Doran [?], and the entity sought the development, yet overpowered by the influences as were brought into the life. In the present personality we find the entity seeking to know the personal forces as manifest in each whom would become in close friendship with the entity. Then producing, as it were, one slow to make new friends.

11. In the one before this we find in the plains of now the Arabian country, when there was war made on the ruler then of Persia, and the entity then as a soldier in the army of the nomads, and under the rule was the guard or secretary to the ruler who lost life in attempt to again bring the ruler, or the one whom the entity served, from bondage. In the name then Khurdus [?] Uhjltd, and one in the charge of the affairs of the leader Uhjltd. In the personality then, we find in the present the seeking to be the one to gain much knowledge of every character and nature, whether pertaining to that field in which the entity labors, or in others, and to correlate such knowledge in a manner wherein would be beneficial to self and others.

12. In the one before this we find in the Egyptian forces, when the second Pharaoh ruled in that land, coming from the plains as the guard to the ruler and the courts, then giving the first laws to the people as regarding manner of life in earth and that expectancy in death. The entity then in the name of Rhaha, [See 341-9, Par. 13-A on 6/2/25 giving further details] and in that plane we find the entity developed to the position of taking the place of the deposed first high priest in that time, and gave much judiciary knowledge to that people. In the personality then shown in the present life, we find still that seeking of all forces pertaining to judiciary subjects, and especially as related to the physical, moral and spiritual life of individuals.

13. In the one before this we find in the land of now the Peruvian country, in the second rule of the Ohlms [?] [Aymaras], and the entity then the ruler in that plane, and giving much of the earthly splendor to the country, retarding self in that time through the relations as had with those of the lower class, or caste, and then we find the entity in the name of The Great Ohlm [Aymara]. In this, we find in the present the desire to see much splendor in others, and in many places, yet shunning those of the opposite sex in a manner, yet desiring ever to bask in the better judgment or thought of such people.

14. In the one before this we find among the first in the land of now the East Indian, in that time when the peoples from the mountains covered the plain country, and among those who first established a dwelling other than among the caves and rocks. In the name at that time we find in that as would be called at present Ouijahbekzd. In the development at that time the entity was among the first of the land and gave much to the peoples, though under stressing times and the entity suffered much in the earthly existence through harm that came through those enemies that sought the life of the entity, and we see in again the present earth’s plane the care as shown in selecting those with whom the entity would be closely associated in any manner, studying the character of such individuals [the opposite sex?] with care and attention.

15. Then, in the one before this, we find among those who first came into the earth’s sphere before it became inhabitable to human life. Only then as the vision did the entity (spirit entity) view the earth’s sphere, and in that passed to the other spheres about the earth.

16. As to the abilities then in the present earth’s plane, we find these then run in many channels. The entity is especially adapted to that of any scientific work of any character, needing the attention of one who looks closely into the details of such work. In that as the mathematician, in that as the critic of any work, whether of one class or another. One that may make self in the class as a critic far beyond the field as is now seen in the entity.

17. Then, as to how, class the work of self in that specific line, following closely in that as is obtained in mental and occult forces, for the entity obtains a spiritual insight into spiritual and material conditions. Then to use this, study to show self approved unto Him who giveth all good and perfect gifts, forsaking not that as is set in Him who came into the world as the propitiation for the sins of the people.

R1. 3/29/25 He wrote:

If reading and rereading over and over again is an evidence of interest in written matter, then the recent paper that you sent me must have made a tremendous appeal to my mentality. I am sure that I have read it throughout on an average of about three times a day since it was received.

An [And?] in reading I admit “This IS ME” (I).

Of course I do not know whether or not I possess the outstanding potentialities spoken of on the last page, nor have I established a definite connection in my conscious mind with Messrs. Alden, Doran, Uhjdt, Rhaha, Olhm and Ouijahbekzd. But most of those boys had fairly acceptable histories, so I guess that I should be delighted to appropriate to my present welfare all of their important tendencies, and to will out such of their weaknesses as may be done.

In the past I have not delved to any considerable extent into the subject of reincarnation, and in consequence am not yet in a position either to embrace it fully nor to deny it. You already know this, however. But your reading being based essentially on that, and having stirred the question actively in my mind, I hope gradually to come to a definite decision on that point that shall be satisfying at least to myself.

Near the beginning of the reading you have said some rather complimentary things about me that seem to be unduly flattering, or I have not gauged properly - or realized - the result of my influence. On the other hand your remarks about the inclination to be recluse in action and manner are undeniable, but in the course of the reading, granting any of the happenings, there appear to be logical explanations of that characteristic.

It has long been realized by me that this is one thing that has caused many of my casual acquaintances and a few intimates, to consider me somewhat cold - an impression that I have taken very little trouble to counteract. As your reading says “with many brings the not understandable conditions to the body”. Exactly.

Both Doran and Ouijahbekzd left tendencies against making new friends readily and speedily. So what’s the chance for [228] in that respect.

And that little remark you made about the opposite sex - handed down by the Great Ohlm, just about hits the nail on the head.

Now near the end of the reading it is indicated that my abilities run in many channels. Perhaps it would be egotistical for me to admit that I believe that, but not when I also admit that I have considered that attribute as being detrimental on the same theory as “A Jack of all trades - good at none”.

Of course I know that there are some few things that I have put my hand to in which I have had splendid success in a small way; and I am sure that there are numerous things that I could do very well, under necessity, and much better than the average person. But most of the things that have occurred to me with which I could have done averagely well have not appealed to me as being my SPECIALTY. In fact I have often wondered what to make my specialty, but had just about come to the conclusion that I would make IT whatever came to hand from day to day, and whatever developed from that.

That’s about the average person’s plan of life procedure, undoubtedly, and is about as well as the majority know how to look out after their best interests, and the most efficient use of their abilities. Rather a discouraging condition; one that needs a doctor almost as badly as most physical ailments.

You have mentioned possibilities for me of which I have never thought, for which I thank you. When the time is propitious, and we can make mutually satisfactory arrangements, I would like to go a bit further into the details of this part of the reading, if consistent, but that may be delayed until I can catch my “second wind”.

All in all I think that your reading is very remarkable, and is certainly very deeply appreciated.

The next time I write I expect to tell you of a few little outside matters now developing in which I have recently become interested.

R2. 4/3/25 EC’s letter:

Have yours of the 29th, which was quite interesting and very much appreciated. I had refrained from even going over or reading what was gotten in your Life Reading until after I had heard from you, for I wanted to get as far as it was possible for me to do so your point of view of the information as gotten, so wanted just as little pre-conceived ideas as possible.

Now, as you well know, for I believe you know me as well or better than any other individual living does, this information as is gotten is as entirely new to me, and as foreign to what I have thought or studied, as anything possibly could be. Naturally, I have tried to study quite a bit of this since we first found these readings. Some few months ago, I came to the conclusion, from information that was gotten in readings, that we had been erroneously calling them horoscope readings, so we asked some questions concern- ing them, and I only wish it was possible for you to go over all of the data that we have gotten concerning these things and see what you think of it. I don’t know where it comes from. I don’t know how to piece it to-gether, yet each individual says just as yourself, “This is ME”. Now, I know several people who have made use of these and it has made a wonderful change in their lives. Whether every individual can do this or not, perhaps may be just as the physical diagnosis indicate; some conditions are such that to the individual case it becomes an impractical thing. Just as such as these, and this information going back into this thing of Re-incarnation would become impractical to minds not open to such philosophy, or shall I say “fool-ology”? I have one, of course, on myself, one on my wife, on both of the boys. I’ll be glad to send you the one on myself, or any of the others, if you’d like to see ‘em, and if you are studying the thing I’m sure, just as you were with the physical diagnosis, you can better judge it by seeing the results, or information as is given in several such readings. I am desirous of sometime taking an individual life reading and attempting to analyse same through readings if it is possible. That is, take each appearance as is supposed to be given and give an outline of that existence in the earth plane, obtaining as much of the history of the time and age as possible. This, perhaps, would necessitate many of such readings, but with several such analyses we would be able perhaps to gain some very interesting information, or prove the thing a bosh and merely a form of mental transference of impressions received in a physical and subconscious condition. However, I see I’m wading off here I can’t follow my own self very well. Personally, I don’t think though, [228], that there were any too high compliments paid you in the reading, but it seems to me rather saying what makes you what you are during the present experience. I certainly am in hopes that you will write me once in a while on these things. I’m sure also, as you read this from the reading you gain a different concept of the whole thing, and I don’t want you to hesitate to criticise it just as severely as you will, for apparently the Forces recognize in you a critic -but an honest one.

R3. 1/3/26 Mr. [779] wrote EC that Mr. [228] had gotten married and was moving to Florida.

R4. 9/29/26 See EC’s dream rdg. 294-82 advising him to make contact again with Mr. [228], because of associations in past incarnations and possibilities in the present.

R5. 10/1/26 EC did write Mr. [228], saying: “I don’t think we ought to let our friendship die out entirely. What do you say?”

R6. 10/8/26 Mr. [228] wrote that he had gotten married to a Miss [313] on 12/19/25, and had started into a new job as accountant in Fla. on 1/4th, in a public accounting firm.

R7. 2/12/27 Mr. [779] wrote: “I would like to see [228] very much. I always thought so much of him. Somehow I got a little closer to [228] than to his brother [1868], I guess because I instructed [228] in his Masonic work.

R8. 2/13/27 Mr. [228] and his wife [313] visited EC while he was in Miami.

R9. 4/18/30 He wrote: “I am with [… … Inc.] at the head of their bookkeeping dept. We employ about 60-80 persons, and do business of about three hundred thousand a year. I believe they are fairly well pleased with my services.”

R10. 7/19/32 See 538-32, Par. 13-A indicating that [228] was a friend of Mrs. [538] in the Persian-Arabian period, and a leader who followed his bro. Uhjltd.

R11. 1/12/33 He requested a Business Rdg. in re change of work, also as to certain inventions he had been working on.

R12. 1/17/33 EC gave him Business Rdg. 228-3 answering above questions, also volunteering Physical Rdg. 2/10/33 See 228-4 Ditto, 4/6/33 228-5, 4/25/33 228-6.

R13. 9/18/34 He obtained 228-7 on an invention.

R14. 2/18/36 He obtained Business Rdg. 228-8 in re his new work as branch mgr. of a credit and finance corp.

R15. 12/10/38 His cousin, Mrs. [2457] wrote that Mr. [228] was now Supt. of their Sunday School.

R16. 3/8/39 Friend Mr. [779] wrote: “[228] is making us a very good Sunday School Supt.”

R17. 7/11/40 He wrote: “I put in an application through the Civil Service Commission for JUNIOR CONSTRUCTION COST ACCOUNTANT.”

R18. 11/30/41 Friend Mr. [779] wrote: “[228] and his wife left the 24th for Kansas - I think with the Government in some bookkeeping dept.”

R19. 12/21/42 He wrote from Texas: “The book has been rec’d. Some 250 pages were read the first night, and the remainder practically the second. All the way through pages 1 to 359 I was convinced that ‘There is a River,’ but from page 361 onward I thought maybe I had gotten into the ocean, but hope to be able not to get too far over my head.

“We hope all of you will enjoy a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

“Naturally we hope also that your work will continue to be a great blessing to those who may avail themselves of it.”

R20. 1/43 GD’s note: We just heard that Mr. [228], after being Senior Cost Auditor since Dec. 1941 at Army Air Force bases, had returned to Ala. as auditor for a large manufacturing firm.

R21. 1/48 He and his wife attended A.R.E. lecture in Ala. by Lydia J. Schrader Gray, at which time he said he was accountant for a local dept. store.

R22. 9/11/50 He died of cancer of the liver.
