This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 18th day of September, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [325], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., through her son, Mr. [257].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce.]

-
EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, that are latent and manifested in the personalities of the entity now known as or called [325] - born with a caul.
-
In entering the present experience, and in giving the interpretation of that which has been the experience of the entity through the activities in the earth and the sojourns in the environs of same, that which would be helpful we find would be approached rather from these angles that make for analyzing. In other words, rather than giving that which would be as precepts, we would give that which is indicated for the entity’s own interpretation, the entity’s own enlightenment. Thus may there be the application in the present experience of those things that have been and are so much a part of the entity, in having EXPERIENCED same. These become, as it were, part and parcel of the entity; to be met, to be used, to be made experiences that build in the realm of activity through which the entity journeys in its gaining an at-onement with the Creative Forces.
-
From the astrological aspects, then, we find rather a confusing - as taken from the ordinary angle. For those influences of the head and of Gemini become a portion of the entity’s experience.
-
Hence we find one, as indicated from the manner or type of birth in the present, that is a “sensitive” to spiritual import.
-
The entity is STRONG of mind, of temperament; high-strung in its ideals for not only self but for those about self, and its relationships to those who have had to do with the mental and spiritual portions of the activities.
-
Yet those that would become the greater part must be to the entity manifested in a material way and manner.
-
We have afflictions in Cancer with the relationships in the Jupiterian forces. These make for those conditions where the strength of the body in its relationships to others has been and is spoken of rather in terms of that which is hushed in the manner of its greater expression.
-
In its associations with individuals, then, the entity becomes as a HELPFULNESS; being a confidante of many; one to whom many come for their OWN instruction.
-
These make for those influences that appear in the experience of the entity in the present sojourn.
-
Also the influences in Venus and Mercury make for the high ideals in relationships with friends; the individual having a high standard in such relationships. And those that break same, to the entity become as those that are as outcasts from the understanding or interpreting of the higher spiritual conditions in the affairs of others.
-
The high mental capacity and the high mental abilities arise from those sojourns or relationships.
-
As to the earthly appearances, then, and those that have influenced and do influence the entity in the present, we find:
-
Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, during those periods when there were the establishings of the peoples in the land under a new regime, as it were; or when the disturbances brought about what is ordinarily known as the American Revolution - or those withdrawals from the activities of the motherland.
-
The entity then was among those of the household of those who aided not only in the financing but in the counseling and advising of those in authority.
-
Then in the name Amanda Goldsteihn, the entity’s activities brought many associations that were for the material developments.
-
And much of the ability in the present to hold to its own ideals comes from that sojourn; yet the entity is also in the position of considering the ideas and ideals of others.
-
Hence tolerance of a nature is a portion of the experience in the entity, while tolerance in other directions - as indicated - has not been a part of the entity at all.
-
So there are conflicting forces when it comes to the material associations and the mental and spiritual life.
-
These are as experiences of the entity in the present, yet none but what the entity is able to see their variations for their activities in the material and the mental and the spiritual forces in THEIR own relationships.
-
Hence the entity becomes in the present as a good judge of human nature, as one that analyzes the activities and the promptings of individuals in their associations.
-
These are from the associations of the entity in those experiences when there were the beginnings and the activities and the settlements of the revolutionary influences that came into the minds of many, and into the experiences of the entity during those sojourns.
-
Before that we find the experience which has made for the greater development, the greater portion of the entity’s experience in the present; for it was during those periods when there were the peoples returning to the rebuilding of the city.
-
The entity, rather than being among those at the first of the rebuildings, was in the latter portion under Nehemiah.
-
When those activities were renewed, the entity then journeyed with those people who were also of the households or the children of the Levites, or those that offered the sacrificial service for the peoples in that particular experience.
-
As the entity sought during those expressions and periods for not only the advancement of those with whom the entity was associated, but for their rightful position in the service with the renewed activities in the rebuilded city and in the replenishing for the activities during the sojourn, the entity made great advancement.
-
Hence those things pertaining to the offices of those activities that BECOME those of the lineal descent are a portion of the entity’s experience; that there should be not mere formalities but certain things expected of individuals in certain positions through the law from the beginnings of the entity’s activities in such sojourns - as will be seen.
-
Then in the name Matilda (as would be termed in the present), the entity joined much with those in the service of the temple, in the renewing of those activities when not only the temple but the walls of the city were rebuilded.
-
Before that we find the entity lived in the earth during those periods when there were the preparations for the journey to the Promised Land.
-
Again the entity was in one of the families of the Levites, nigh unto the household of the leaders in that experience; being in the household of those who were then friends, neighbors and associates of Jochebed, the mother of Moses.
-
These associations with the mother brought the entity into close association and activity with Miriam and Aaron, during those periods that the entity Moses joined closer with the activities and relationships with his own people.
-
During the period of sojourn through the wilderness, the entity then became nigh unto the priesthood again; becoming then the wife of Nadab, one of the sons of Aaron made the high priest. [See 257-10.]
-
With the destruction of these in the Wilderness of Zin because of their offerings of strange fire on the altar, it brought to the entity the widowhood which made the longings for the changes that were gradually wrought by the activities with the sons and the daughters of Jethro, those that joined themselves later to the activities.
-
And the sons then of the tribe of Judah became the protectorate to the entity during the rest of its experience in that sojourn.
-
Throughout the activities the entity gained much in its moral and mental and spiritual life. Little of the material things became a part of the entity’s activity. And the entity, while not among those that were of age when leaving Egypt, journeyed into the Promised Land; being among those that left Egypt that journeyed into the Promised Land.
-
These influences, and those that will be attracted to and drawn about the entity, will have much to do with the beginnings of the return to that activity - in those promises made for those in that sojourn. [See her grandson’s Life Rdg. 1856-1 and Reports.]
-
In the present these make for conflicting influences at times in the experiences of the entity. Yet join into the services in the tabernacle, for these mean much to the entity.
-
Before that we find the entity was in the Egyptian land, during those periods when there were turmoils and strifes, when there were those taking sides with the activities when the Priest was banished.
-
The entity then was among those who sided with the Priest, and among those that went into banishment; choosing rather to be close to those in that particular activity indicated by the Priest, than to those who would join with the King and his counsellors who had caused those disturbing factors.
-
With the return the entity became joined with those in establishing the activities in Ibex, AFTER there had been the overcoming of the rebellion there.
-
Hence many of those whom the entity may contact during this experience, or those whom the entity has met, are those whom the entity counselled at that time. And there will appear more and more those activities that will be likened unto the experiences in the Ibex rule, or the Ibex experience of the entity as Hen-Ret-Lo.
-
For the entity then was one close to those put in authority there, AFTER there had been made the closer relationships. And there, in Ibex, began the greater portion of that known as the COMMERCIAL activity in relationships with other nations, with other peoples, with other tribes, with other lands.
-
In the present, then, the entity rises as one with an insight into business and business associations, business relations. Hence in the abilities of the entity these are found as a portion of the entity’s faculties, gifts, NATURALLY, dealing with peoples of MANY various characters - and ESPECIALLY with people of different faiths, when it comes to their moral and their religious life.
-
Then, as to that to which the entity may attain, and how:
-
Keep the faith as thou hast had in all thine dealings with thy fellow man, and PRESS ONWARD rather in giving to those who seek to know the way - in or through counsel, through precept, through judgements - the manner in which they may find, through thy EXPERIENCES, the knowledge not only of material matters but mental and spiritual forces as well.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Why her interest in special lines of endeavor? (A) As indicated, through those activities in the various experiences and sojourns in the earth.
-
(Q) What is her life’s work yet to be accomplished? (A) In counselling, in advising others as to the laws pertaining to the relationships of man to the Creative Forces; and manners and means and ways.
-
(Q) What is her destiny? (A) Mental, physical or spiritual? These, of course, have each their OWN way, their own sphere of development. Keep the faith, for the Lord thy God has not destined that any soul would be separated from Him.
-
(Q) Will she be able to contact her loved ones when her period on this plane is fulfilled? (A) They are ever one with another. As she contacts them in the present, so may she contact them the more when with them.
-
(Q) How is it most easily accomplished? (A) By making the attunement one to another.
-
(Q) What has been the entity’s accomplishment according to God’s standard during this appearance? (A) This must be determined within self. Who would reckon as to God’s plans, or God’s ways with man?
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/18/35 GD’s notes: See your sons’ Life Readings as follows:
Nadab, “one who offered strange fire on the altar” - now [257].
Priest, who was banished from Egypt - now Edgar Cayce [294]. Body Guard to Priest banished - now [257].
Aide to Gen. Howe during American Revolution - now [257].
Scribe to Ezekiel - now [257].
[2653] - “when children of promise were leaving the Egyptian country - worked with needle and assisted in weaving coverings for the tabernacle.”
[2653] - in Palestine, “in care of house and rooms of tabernacle where shew bread was kept; in capacity of bringing this to remembrance of peoples in their return and inducing them to take up the closer touch of the priest’s offering.”
[4162] - in Palestine, “among those who strove with the workers in the restoration of the temple service.”
R2. 9/23/35 Son [257]‘s letter: “I’ve just left Mother’s. She looks very badly and is suffering a great deal of pain since the x-ray treatments. So I’ve made up the questions she suggested. If possible get them as soon as you can. The doctor says it was caught in time and the x-ray will help her, and stop the condition. I’d rather have your opinion and I will then know what to do.
“She was terribly pleased with her Life Reading. It is very consistent, isn’t it? She will write you when able, but she asked me to tell you she thought it wonderful and accounted for a lot of things she has always felt, especially about your work.”
R3. 9/26/35 See Ck. Physical 325-64, and subsequent Reports.
R4. 10/17/35 Mother [3251 died, one month after above Life Rdg. was given.
R5. GD’s note: Her daughter-in-law, Mrs. [[903], her son [257]‘s wife], of whom she was absurdly jealous [see her remarks in letters throughout Reports on her health readings], stated that perhaps she and Mrs. [325] could have been great friends if they had met under other circumstances than as in-laws. The attachment to her son [257] was so great, from the Palestine period when she was his [Nadab’s] wife, that there was no room left for his wife for her affection in this incarnation.
R6. 2/2/36 Son [257]‘s letter: “Now for a review of the last sixty days.
“As to the trip home [to Ky. for mother’s burial], Mother received the honors that she lived for - that is, the respect of her original friends, and they were all there to meet and greet her - black and white, Jew and Gentile. I spent one hour with her at home last Monday a week ago [1/20/36], and then on to N.Y. [He started above letter with this paragraph: “Just a chatty visit on a Sun. afternoon that I always set aside for Mother. Today I have had the first period since she passed on to even think, or to feel that I had enough rest in the few hours before that I was not too tired to write. So not being able to visit her this afternoon, I am doing what I know would please her - we are having a three-way visit, all in the absent, but all of the understanding and the thought. I am not quite attuned to the silent guest, but feel that she is guiding us both and I am sure if at the moment she could say so in words, her thoughts would be for you and me to the exclusion, or to the preference of anyone.”]
R7. 12/10/40 See daughter [459]‘s ltr. under 1856-1 Reports in re son [1856]‘s heritage as grandson of Mrs. [325], etc.
R8. 12/12/40 EC’s reply: “When I hear from you or am with [257] or any of the rest of the family, am often reminded of the early days when I first met your mother and dad and knew practically all of you as children. It makes me realize I am old, though I don’t feel it. Then, of course, when your mother was deciding whether she would accept me as a member of the family practically, she knew, as she said, that [257] especially and possibly many of you would be influenced by the contact with me and the things that might be presented through the readings, if they were to be taken seriously.
“So, I have never forgotten that, nor the things she said to me. Through the years, while I know I have been possibly a problem for some of you, and especially to [257], I have never forgotten the duty or obligation that I owe each of you for her sake, for I have felt as if I was one of the family, whether as a stray or an accepted one. Nevertheless, each of your problems have been and are a part of my problems.
“I have watched the development and expansion of each of you with a great deal of foreboding at times, yet with all the care that has been my ability to give when asked.”
R9. 1/7/41 Daughter [459]‘s ltr.: “Your ever welcome letter made me feel that I was back in the good ole days. Yes, there were some very trying days when [257] was in the World War [I] and [4162] in training and Dad passed away in the midst of all. My dear Mother was so brave. That’s why my heart went out to her more than the average child feels for a mother. She had proven herself. Her life was her husband and children. I could never reveal the many heartaches, I could only attempt to summarize her intense love for us by saying that only one mother in the universe could have stood the trials and that was my own dear, precious mother. I have tried to rear my children in the footsteps of her fine example. She was a noble woman. Yes, she loved you and your dear family and Gladys surely…
“To have helped as you have in our lives and to have given so freely of your God-given power is probably the why of Mother’s easy death. She went to sleep, after saying a few words. A reading was on the way [325-71]. She tried to await the coming but was too weak. She felt that she would guide us through you. She religiously carried out your readings - never deviated. That’s why she lived for fifteen years longer than she probably would have lived. An operation she feared. The faith in you kept her alive.”
R10. 1/14/42 Daughter [459]‘s ltr.: “Mother had eight children [[257], [459], [4162], [2588], [558], [460], [2653], [[5762], who died earlier than Dad] and [563], nine in all.] but her faith in God kept up her morale. Often did I hear her say in her prayer, ‘God, watch over me that my children may be a credit to their father’s name.’ My wish was to have a son to follow him. Just 51 when he died. Such a father, husband and friend to all mankind. Well, here is my darling son [1856]. On his grandfather’s memorial day he prayed for his soul to reach the heights in heaven. In Hebrew too. Dad heard him I’m sure. [1856]‘s father died during same week. Both December. Dad died 20th, [4159] 9th. Any significance? I believe Dad called him. [4159] and Dad both Hebrew scholars - Talmudists. Well, the combination library fills one side of [257]‘s library…
“I wonder if the Brotherhood of Man will not be the outcome of this war. Maybe that was the purpose. I remember dear [4159]‘s thesis for Ph.D. and he wrote on the New Testament and it was accepted as an A-plus. He said the brotherhood of man would be our coming religion on the principle ‘do unto others’ as was the saying of Jesus, Moses, Confucius, Mohammed, etc. Their fundamental of religion - the one God above us all. Are we not all God’s children? Well, I’ve always lived that way, not boasting.
“[4159] started the Union of Catholics, Jews, Christian association in N.J. and now it’s grown nationally. Too bad that his life was cut off, but God’s will must be done. [1856] will probably carry on for him and Dad, God willing…
“Mother wanted to be buried next to Dad and [5762] in Ky.”
R11. 1/16/42 EC’s reply: “I have long realized, since I met your family in Ky., especially your mother, that my whole life was changed. [257] has been just as your mother said at the breakfast table, the first night I stayed in your home on … ‘[257], I want you to do all you can to help this man get his work before the world,’ and many more nice things she said about me. I know she made many sacrifices while [257] was yet in Army, and after he came back from France. But [257] has proven a real friend, and has kept the promise he made his mother that evening. So, you may be very sure I have thought many times of all that has gone on as related to each member of the family.
“Of course I saw your mother’s work in the home, in the grocery store, and among the people of …, Ky., and the thought of others there in regard to your father, [257] and the other boys. I saw how you took hold when your father passed on, making a regular soldier of yourself. Many times I have gone over everything that happened there. I was with your Mother often in the synagogue there, as you possibly remember - the days when your wedding was announced, as well as in …, Miss., and elsewhere; [257] and I on the road for various reasons, in Texas as well as in Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, Washington, Cleveland, Philadelphia and New York. All is like a panorama before me. Then, when your children came [[1856] and [2444]], while I may not have been just as oft present in person as when in Ky. or elsewhere, you were certainly oft in mind. Your mother’s counsel in letters is next to that of my own Mother in the influence on my daily life.
“So, each of you, [459], have had a very definite place in my life and in whatever little I am ever able to accomplish here. While I am oft very disappointed at the little I have been able to do towards helping any of you, I am pleased to say that I have never failed, as I know of, to at least try. I know there have been hundreds, yes, literally thousands, who have had help of most every nature. A great deal of the credit for my being able to be the channel for such help is due to your mother’s and [257]‘s help. I won’t ever forget that. And I am sure if it has been pleasing to God to grant this help, to each of you there is a star for the unselfish way you have each helped in your own way. I’m sure you are anxious, but a joyous anxiousness, in watching the lives of [1856] and [2444] develop. I believe you are in the right environment for their best development Cincinnati Hebrew Union Seminary, etc.]. It’s your mother’s own, and I’m sure her influence is often near each of you. I am sure that the contribution of [1856] and [2444] will be able to make to the shaping of affairs in this cruel old world after this war will be toward bringing the kingdom of God in the earth. That is as I believe He would have it. So, you will be and are fulfilling your place in it all by directing them at this period of physical and mental development. [1856]‘s work will be international, I’m sure, for he has the mind and the ability, and with God’s help he can do it. He only needs to stay close to God and His ways in the earth, and with your help that I am sure he will do.
“So with [2444], while her work may not be as broad, nevertheless just as important. And may the faith of our fathers be with us yet, lest we forget, lest we forget.
“Yes, I have often felt as our boys were growing up [Hugh Lynn and Edgar Evans] that they were like guinea pigs as regards the work I am doing. I have known for a long time that it [the work] would be judged by what sort of men they made. At times I feel very proud of the results I am seeing in the progress they each are making. They are as different as night and day, yet they are knit together as one seldom sees in brothers. And I believe, like your own, the world will be better for their having been in same. And THAT, to me, is what God would have each of us be. [He gave details about where both boys were at the moment.]
“All very well here. Gertrude, though very much handicapped now, is doing a fine job, and I will never forget the lecture you gave me while you lived in …, Miss. [when I was there with [257]]. Yes, it did me good.”
