This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21th day of April, 1926, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [349], via her employer, Mr. [257].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Born February 28, 1904, at Kiev, Russia. Time of Reading 3:50 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C.

GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the Universe, and the Universal Forces giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving the time, the place, and the name, and that in that life which built or retarded the development for the entity, giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how.
-
EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the Universe and Universal Forces, as are latent and exhibited in the present earth’s plane.
-
Now, in taking the position in the earth’s plane, we find the entity comes under the influence of Pisces, and of Mercury, Venus, Uranus, Mars (Mars not always in good influence, however, so beware of firearms and bodily destruction through same), Jupiter, adverse influence in Neptune and Saturn. Coming upon the cusps, as we find, many of the influences, from, the astrological viewpoint, become accentuated, and through same we find many conditions, in the various phases of the entity’s personality, which are exceptional in many ways and manners, though under adverse influences these exceptional personalities become as worries, or reaching the point at times of even TORMENT to self. This then, as is seen, necessitates that more will’s force must be manifested by the entity, that the best, physically, mentally, or spiritually, may be manifested through the present earth’s sojourn.
-
As to those inclinations and urges as are seen from within, many of these are shown more from the appearances in the earth’s plane than from the influences of the astrological sojourn. Hence, again we see a law manifested of that pertaining to the ELEMENTS of the human urge, for the innate desire in the individual is to accomplish through earthly means. Hence, many of the astrological forces as will be seen manifested, unless will’s influence towards good is exemplified.
-
As to the conditions as are seen in the earth’s sojourn at present:
-
One of high minded and ennobling influences in self, and the desire and respect of the entity sustained more by those of high position than of real worth. This, as we find, becomes detrimental at times to the entity’s best interest.
-
One of much capabilities in every condition pertaining to the mental. One whose mentality may carry the entity far, in a physical, a mental, a spiritual way, guided correctly.
-
One that, with the undue influence as comes through Mars, Neptune, or Saturn, may bring destructive, bodily, mentally, spiritually, influences in the life, THROUGH the contrary-wise conditions of the entity, for we find the one high minded of a stubborn nature, of the inclination to be very jealous in respects to both position and love affairs. This brings much torment at times to the entity.
-
One that makes friends easily; does not retain them as easy.
-
One that is a good listener, GAINING much thereby. One that will ever find it to its best interest to remain a good listener, rather than to attempt to lead.
-
One who will always succeed most by following close in the way of those set as ideal, provided the ideal correctly chosen, both from the spiritual, physical, moral, and the earthly welfare.
-
One whose greatest abilities lie in, then, choosing wisely, correctly, and making a home; for the entity should learn that the home is the FOUNDATION of all society of the world, the state, the nation, the individual. In the building then of same lies the greatest fort of the entity, yet, of necessity, there will be found the needs of using will’s force, for the love of pomp, of glory, of fame, of position, of money, of lands, of much worldly goods, may make even THIS home that unseemly, ungodly, place, when not directed, guided, guarded, from the correct incentive, principles, or plans.
-
One that may accomplish much in the field of secretarial-ship to one of high position. One whose influence in such ways and manners would be good. The highest, the best, the noblest, the most lasting, however, lies in the home.
-
As to appearances and the urges from same: [9/7/31 See 349-8, Par. 14-A—17-A advising that in her stage career it would be best for her to use the name under which she gained most in that direction, - that is, the Grecian-Roman period.] [Perhaps this period was not influencing her at the time she obtained 349-1, consequently was not given.] [2/2/32 See 349-9 setting the Grecian-Roman incarnation at 421-300 B.C., giving details.]
-
In the one before this we find in the land of that now known as the Persian land, when the rule was changed from that of the polynistic [?] to monarchistic rule, and the entity then in the name Ukhjdl, and the entity gained in this period, for, with the influence of the conditions as were changing, the entity dwelt much on the mental abilities of many, and assisted much in the state affairs, being in the household of the ruler. In the urge there is seen the desire for the best for bodily adornment, but plain, and that greater adornment in those garments unseen, for the desire to be that as near perfect in self as can be accomplished is held innate, and, as given, much outside is will’s force. In the usage or lesson, the entity should heed then more often to that of the dictates of the inner consciousness.
-
In the one before this we find in the land of the country that is now known as Mexican, and the entity then in that of the ancient rule now called Aztec, as the princess to the ruler in the temple, under the name Azurr, and the entity lost and gained. In the early portion of that sojourn gained in the way of power and of prestige among the peoples that the entity served. In the latter day the abuse of that power brought physical and mental deterioration to the entity. The urge as is seen is the desire for travel, the desire for the knowledge of the inner courts of many nations, many peoples.
-
In the one before this we find in the Egyptian country, when the rule was changed from that of the service to the physical to the spiritual. The entity then among those of the maidens to the temple service, Ra-Ta period] and the entity gained and lost in that period, through that achievement to the inner courts of the attendants. Then in the name Csopia, and the urge as is seen - the inner feeling of the supremacy of the Spirit, should the entity gain a consciousness or knowledge of same. This being, then, that so often the entity drowns in the earthly urges. The entity needs, then, gain the better control of self, through the will’s forces, knowing first that the desires of the heart, when made in keeping with the Giver of all good and perfect gifts, give peace, quiet and contentment, which brings happiness; finding self then in that way, for, as has been given, “Seek ye first the ways of the Lord. THEN, all these things shall be added unto you.” In the service then, as has been given, will this be found to be the greater work, the greater ability, of the entity. Then keep that first and foremost, and the joy, the blessings, the peace, that passeth all understanding, will be in that way, that manner, that gives joy in earth, satisfaction in life, the home in the hereafter; for in Him is Light, and the Light shineth and giveth peace and harmony in the life in the earth’s plane, and to be in ANY position contrary-wise with those laws brings distrust, selfishness, unsatisfactory relations, unsatisfactory conditions; for LOVE is the key of earth and Heaven; for though there be many lands, many joys, many blessings, without love these are as nothing, for “Love suffereth long, is kind; believeth all things, endureth all things; vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,” and endureth through the entire life in earth and maketh the soul One with Him.
-
We are through.
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/30/26 “Thank you very much for my rdg. It is very true and also very deep, and I shall try to have Mr. [257] explain it to me when he has time. In the meanwhile, I want you to know that I appreciate it and shall most likely write you again.” Sincerely, [349]
R2. See subsequent Physical and Mental Rdgs. in which she asks questions about her life and work.
R3. 7/6/26 She submitted questions for 349-2, saying: “The other rdg. [349-1] was perfect and I marvel how a stranger could read my character so perfectly.”
R4. 4/30/27 She referred her friend Miss [4505] for a Life Rdg., and also her dentist friend, Dr. [4948].
R5. 2/21/28 Following EC’s visit to N.Y. to see Mr. [900] for whom Miss [349] was working in her spare time, on his manuscript:
Let me compliment you on your ability to read palms. There is something almost uncanny in the way that you assure me that I will have many disappointments, and then they actually happen! I am very much discouraged with the situation in which I find myself at the present time, from many angles, and I do wish there were a way out. Someday soon, I know, I shall run away, and I really mean it. I can’t stand things as they are, with one disappointment after another, for no appparent cause. In a previous incarnation I must have been very wicked, and am paying for it now. I am going to study the life reading again that you gave me sometime ago and see If I can establish an alibi for all my present disappoint- ments in this life. I am rapidly becoming a fatalist to the extent that I believe nothing good and nice will ever happen to me; my faith in the human race is rapidly disappearing, and I believe that humans are only actuated by motives for their own personal aggrandizement and self satisfaction.
Well, I don’t want to bore you further with my affairs, as I know you have enough troubles of your own.
This is the tail-end of a day before a holiday and I am very anxious to get out and be free. I just feel like walking up Fifth Avenue, stopping in the Plaza for tea and riding home in a taxi. I suppose that’s not a very laudable ambition, so I shall promptly proceed to smother it - both literally and figuratively, by going home like the rest of the sardines - in the subway.
I won’t keep you much longer. Please let me hear from you soon and give me an appointment for a reading - and then if it doesn’t tell me what I want it to tell me, I shall go down to Texas and get me a Texas ranger as I have always threatened to do.
R6. 4/3/30 “Wish things were better than they are. Feel rather ‘bluish’ about everything, and especially Mrs. [903].” [GD’s note: In talking with Miss [349] last summer I gathered that she is jealous of Mrs. [903], her boss’ wife, and that she had felt when she first started to work for Mr. [257] that he might eventually marry her. However, he married Mrs. [903] in 1927 and she, Miss [349], has been unhappy ever since, in her work and in her relationship with Mr. [257]. [See subsequent readings.]
R7. 2/17/34 She requested Ck. Physical 349-16, saying she had not worked or rec’d any salary since July 31st, and had not been able to get a start theatrically: “I don’t mean to lay my troubles before you but I more or less feel about you as a father confessor. It’s funny, but I feel about you as if you were a personal representative of God’s and whatever you say to me is what He would say. Is that wrong of me? After all, some people go to a priest and feel that same way, and ‘though you are not a regular ordained minister, I personally feel that you are near enough to God for me to get the same spiritual blessing and healing that other people get from their ministers. I want to tell you, too, that I always will appreciate the fact that you always have been ready to help me without any thought of financial recompense…that is the sort of thing one can never really repay. I feel, however, that some day I will be in a position to do something for you and the Association that will forever prove and be a witness to my gratitude. That, I am sure you know.”
R8. See subsequent Mental-Spiritual Rdgs. 349-17, 349-18, 349-19.
R9. 5/10/36 She got married to Mr. [2573].
R10. 5/13/41 She obtained 2498-1, Life Rdg. for their baby son.
R11. 8/12/41 She obtained Life Rdg. 2573-1 for husband.

Background
B1. 4/10/26 “If you will recall, I met you and Hugh Lynn at Mr. [257]‘s home last Jan. when he was ill, and we all enjoyed fruit cake and wine together.
“I seem to be at all loose ends lately, and I think that perhaps I need a readjustment of my mental condition. There seems to be no one to whom I can turn to help me, and I feel that you can… I have been wanting to write you for quite some time and ask if you could give me a Life Rdg. as well as a mental rdg… Why am I always restless and dissatisfied? Will I ever be satisfied and happy? Am I in love at present time? Why does a certain person always make me unhappy? What course should I pursue with him? When and under what conditions will I meet mate? When will I marry? Will mate be sort of person I will be proud of? Will I meet anyone this year who will be especially interested in me and vice versa? Am I happy in present environment? What field should I engage in, in order to be happy? How can I meet friends who are of a superior type, interesting and of a different calibre than friends I have? Have I any special talents I have not made use of? How can I become interesting, charming and develop personality? What is my chief charm? What characteristics should I develop, and what characteristics ought I to drop, in order to be the sort of person I wish to be, in order to attract worth while friends?”
