This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Phillips Hotel, Dayton, Ohio, on the 20th day of July, 1923.

Time of Reading 12:00 Noon Dayton, Ohio.

1. FA: Mr. Cayce, on July 8th, 1923, thirteen days ago [GD’s note: 12 days ago] you told us in the reading given on the body of [3751] that the condition of this body was apparently worse, but in reality was much improved in many respects due to the breaking up of the condition which had previously existed. We are anxious at this time to know why, in view of this information, the body should have passed away within six days from the date of the reading referred to, and in view of the fact that everything was apparently done as prescribed and instructed, just what caused the death?

2. EC: Yes, we have these conditions here as of July 8th, 1923, and those July 14th, 1923, [3751] here. The condition that was as breaking in the system that needed be eliminated from the body through the correct channels as was given, so arranged through the eliminating forces as to break the cellular tissue through those of the arterial forces and to drain the system of the blood forces and produced internal poison through the body, this causing the disintegration of the spirit and soul forces from the physical body. This we see began on the 12th, four days after this information as given here.

3. (Q) Did the body suffer much pain before departing this life? (A) No, not at last, much before.

4. (Q) What was lacking in remedying this condition as described, on the 12th day, and what could have saved the body? (A) Prevention of the physical force breaking from the arterial blood supply in the facial portions of body and the destruction of tissue that produced the internal infection by this loss of the vital force. The prevention would have been through the distribution of blood supply by the manipulation in the secondary cardiac forces, as given times and times here, to produce, by this manipulation, the relaxing of the cardiac forces. Allowing blood to flow to the facial portions from the arterial circulation in the facial portions produced infection in the internal forces of the glands in the thyroid region.

5. (Q) Was everything carried out properly outside of the manipulations, and if not just where did the fault lie? (A) The manipulation, as we have given. With the manipulation of the nerve and muscular forces the circulation may be and can be governed in portions of the body with the destruction of that, that produces this obstruction, allowing the circulation to be carried through portions that had been cut off by the breaking up of the cellular force and caused the poisons from that portion of the body cut off to be assimilated internally to the glands and allowed the blood force to be lost in its destructive forces.

6. (Q) Had the atropine been administered earlier, would it have helped some? (A) Just as we have given - destructive forces produced by the breaking of tissue through, allowing strangulation forces to become relaxed and not eliminated through the channels as directed; would not have assisted had it reached this stage or condition as it had on the 12th. Should have been on the 9th, been adjusted through the manipulation, as we have given.

[GD’s note: See subsequent report by Linden Shroyer at 3751-17, Par. R2. As I understand it, Dr. William A. Gravett, D.O., had followed the readings but was away on a convention at the time of 3751-16 and finally, on 7/12/23, a new osteopath - substitute for Dr. Gravett - was called in. Apparently he did not understand the type of treatment required.]

R1. 6/25/28 Morton H. Blumenthal’s ltr. to EC reflects Thomas B. Brown’s memory of the case. He also knew the parents of [3751]:

”…Again Tim Brown told me that a Physical reading was taken on a baby who was very sick and upon application of that given in the reading the baby improved in health and thereafter the baby’s health declined again to an extent where death was threatened. Upon asking the reason or cause for this decline in spite of the application of suggestions given in the physical, and upon asking whether the baby would die the reading gave the following answer: ‘Yes, the baby will die because the father is living such a disreputable life.’…” [GD’s note: While this is not a direct quote from any of the copies we have on file, several who knew the circumstances had this attitude about the child’s death.]

R2. 5/28/49 Linden Shroyer’s report continued [from 3751-1 and 3751-13 Reports]:

“[3751] fell and broke off the bump on his left eye. The remarkable thing about that boy was that although we were sure he could not see, he had a set of color blocks, each side of the blocks being a different color, and he would put them back into the box with each color matched; never would mix them up. That was really remarkable.

“After the fall he seemed to take a turn for the worse, and it seemed that a change in the osteopathic treatment was necessary. The osteopath was out of the city attending a State convention. A substitute was obtained, and apparently the treatment wasn’t given correctly at that time, and the child died. Mr. Cayce was immediately notified, having returned to Birmingham, Alabama. Upon receipt of the wire he made arrangements to return to Dayton.

“Having known nothing of Mr. Cayce’s work other than a few months previous to that time, I was convinced that his work, his own attitude, his being so ready and willing to return to Dayton after what might have seemed to be a failure, was sincere and true.

“That was the first postmortem reading, he said, he had ever given. He was willing to do that because such an improvement had been made in the child over a few months, we just had to see the reason for it. As I remember, I think it indicated that the main reason was the change in the osteopath who was not sufficiently familiar with the case and did not understand what the reading had outlined to be accomplished by the manipulation…”

[GD’s note: Later the mother, Mrs. [2553], had several Physical readings for herself, also a Life reading. On 9/12/26 a baby daughter was born to Mrs. [2553] and Mr. [5759]. Their marriage did not last, however, though she apparently did all in her power to make it last. See her Life reading, 2553-8 for details.]

R3. 10/17/72 [3751]‘s mother [2553] wrote: ”…My son, [3751]‘s case was a most unusual one, and the doctors and osteopath were most cooperative and worked in conjunction with all Mr. Cayce’s readings. [3751] became ill while we were on a trip visiting in Denver, Colorado. Then a doctor examined him and told us the boy could not live, as he had lymphosarcoma. On the way home, on the train, we met a man (Mr. David E. Kahn) who told us about Mr. Cayce in Birmingham, Alabama. My husband [5759] left us in Chicago. [3751] and I went home to Dayton, Ohio and the men went on to Birmingham. From there the first reading was made on me and later on, on [3751]. We were so hopeful that later Mr. Cayce came to Dayton, Ohio and there several more readings were made on [3751]. This went on for many months and I followed out all the orders and reduced the outward abrasions, but then there was a turn and before we could combat the rapid growth inward, our dear little boy passed on to God’s great home…”
