This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of April, 1934, in accordance with request made by the mother, Mrs. [601], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 3:35 to 3:45 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Detroit, Michigan. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before, [480].
-
As we find, there are some changes in the general physical condition of the body. Many of these are for improvements. Others, as we find, are those that apparently disturb the body, yet in a general manner changes are being made such that these conditions may be clarified.
-
The tendencies for the overactivity in some relationships of the body (as related to the eliminations through certain channels) and for the excesses of activity through others, have been materially aided by the use of those properties that have been indicated - in coordinating the organs and their functioning from those centers along the cerebro-spinal system, from which they receive their impulses; for there has been an addition in the system of those properties that aid in the gland activity, and in making for a better functioning of the organs as related to gestation and its elimination. These, as we find, we would continue.
-
We would also continue taking those properties that increase for the system the amount of nerve energy through stimulating the glands of same.
-
As we find, however, this should be added - and under the direction of one that is versed in such applications for the specific method or cause of increasing the temperature to such a degree as to make for clarifying of those hazy conditions that appear in the reaction in the whole mental force of the body:
-
The use of the diathermic treatments that will make for a heating especially of the glands about the adrenals and both ovaries. While creating a temperature for a period, these will - with their reaction - bring to the body the CORRECTING of this condition [480].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) As the X-Ray showed a cloudiness in the right sinus, could that be a cause for the haziness? (A) No. This arises from rather congestion, as from a poor circulation; and those activities through the manipulations osteopathically given will be more beneficial in correcting the condition than any injection or correcting of the sinus, other than through the proper drainages set up by the increased circulation through these portions of the body.
-
(Q) Should the Tonicine be continued? (A) Be continued, for the present.
-
(Q) Have the Adrenal Cortilan injections, to bring up her blood pressure, been helpful? and should they be continued? (A) They have been helpful. But with these other treatments we do not find they would be helpful further. Rather build up the blood supply through the use of the enzymes.
-
(Q) Why does she not sleep well? (A) Disturbed in the mental reactions of the physical functionings of the body; a continual pounding between the sympathetic and cerebro-spinal reaction. Hence the necessity of keeping the manipulations correctly made through the osteopath.
-
(Q) Should the body try to concentrate at present, or is this not best right now? (A) This is not best right now, especially if we are to make the applications of the diathermy.
-
(Q) Would a motor trip be advisable for the body? (A) Wait rather until we overcome this condition.
-
(Q) Any changes suggested in diet? (A) The diet is very good.
-
(Q) Any further advice? (A) Do these things as we have outlined, as in specific directions; keeping the heat in the body - through the diathermy treatments for the time being - to purify same in its activity.
-
We are through with this reading.

(GD’s note: Ventriculin is one of the new enzyme preparations, put up by Parke, Davis & Co., carrying iron - you should be able to get it from local druggist.
Diathermy treatments are usually given by an osteopath - who is also an M.D. - or by an electro-therapist.)

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/26/34 EC’s ltr. to Mrs. [601]: The information gotten for Miss [480] has been forwarded. I notice the suggestion that you return to the osteopath, and also that the diathermy treatment be added for clearing up the haziness. Only last night I saw an article in the May issue of Readers Digest that says the diathermy has been found very helpful in such conditions. As you will see from the article, a Dr. William Schmidt of Philadelphia is accomplishing wonders with the diathermy treatments - and apparently some experiments are going on in Detroit with the same treatments. It would be worth looking into, at least. Why I happened to run across such an article shortly after giving the reading and suggesting that made of treatment, I don’t know. Through the years we have had a great many just such conditions to come up. But I am sure it will be worth looking into. And I believe you are going to find real results. Know that we feel a personal interest in this case, and would appreciate your letting us keep in touch with you from week to week. And know that if it is possible for us to be of any service, you only have to call on us.
With all good wishes, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R2. 4/28/34 Mother [601]‘s ltr.: “Rec’d the rdg. of 4/24th and have noted its contents very carefully. I will arrange to have [480] take the diathermy trs. as you advise and would appreciate your advising me how often these should be taken and for how long a period should these be given and continued. Also for how long a period should she continue taking the Tonicine? She has been taking 3 teaspoons a day since 4/14th. It is rather difficult to receive full cooperation from physicians to agree with advice given through the rdgs., even tho they admit their lack of knowledge of what is causing this haziness, and their blind attempts experimenting to find a cure.
“My experience with the osteopaths has also been one connected with skepticism. Even tho the names you gave to refer to were known, each one tries to experiment with their own ideas.
“[480] is much better since she has stopped taking the medication given by the gland specialist, Dr. Marinus, and has been taking the Tonicine and the Adrenalin Cortilan injections. But the haziness does not leave her for a second.
“I will get the Ventriculin today and follow along the lines indicated in your last rdg. I am deeply grateful for your interest and sincerely hope [480] will benefit by the advice and trs. you recommend.”
R3. 4/30/34 EC’s letter to her mother, Mrs. [601]:
I have yours of the 28th, and know you will be anxious to get started with the diathermy treatment for Miss [480] right away. As to the length of time these should be given and how often, though, I believe you will have to be guided by the physician who applies them; because they will have to be given according to the response she makes to them. However, I should imagine they would be given about once or twice a week. They are electric treatments, and are very soothing.
I shouldn’t think it would be well to take the Tonicine very regularly, except just before the periods - while taking the diathermy treatments.
Yes, I know it is difficult to get the full cooperation from the physicians. However, you should not have trouble in getting the osteopath’s cooperation, as so many in that profession have recognized the value of such information for so long. If the one you have is questioning, possibly we could get the osteopaths we know to recommend one in your city who WOULD cooperate, and who would be in sympathy with the whole undertaking. Let me know about this, and we will be glad to do it.
I appreciate your writing me, and thank you very much for the contribution to our work. I hope you will let us hear from you often, for - as you know - we are sincerely interested in each and every case. I will be more than anxious to know how Miss [480] responds to the diathermy treatments. Be sure and let me know about this as soon as she has taken the second or third treatment.
With kind personal regards, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R4. 5/5/34 Mother [601]‘s ltr.: “Rec’d your ltr. of 4/30th this a.m. and am happy to say there is a slight improvement in [480]‘s condition. She has taken 3 diathermy trs. this past wk. as she expects her period next Tues or Wed. The physiotherapist recommended that many now and two each week after her period. She has been taking the Ventriculin with Iron also.
“The haziness is still there and am hoping the heat tr. will help to clear this condition.
“We have been under a very heavy expense during [480]‘s illness and business conditions not improving very much, [480] felt that she could eliminate the osteopathic trs. and reduce the expense. Therefore she has not had any osteopathic trs. for over a month. I will have her go back to the osteopath who has a copy of your rdg. and is willing to work according to instructions… Should [480] regain her normal health we are planning to attend your Congress meeting the end of June.”
R5. 5/8/34 EC’s ltr. to her mother, Mrs. [601]:
I have yours of the 5th and I am, indeed, glad to know that there are improvements in [480]‘s condition. I feel very hopeful and believe you will see that hazy condition clearing with the Diathermy treatment. I know that the conditions call for considerable expense, but I believe you are right in having all of the treatments suggested followed, for it would be bad to leave off something that would later give rise to conditions returning or for some thing else to develop that would be, possibly, as bad; that is, if you have the osteopath who is in sympathy with the information.
I am sure the information has taken this sort of an attitude about osteopathy throughout the years: Osteopathy is a mode of treatment that assists the body in its physical reaction to adjust itself to conditions by relieving pressures in areas where congestion has and does prevent normal functioning, whether it be of organs or the functioning of organs; consequently, is as universal a mode of treatment as it would be possible to consider.
Now, this may sound peculiar coming from someone who is not an osteopath, but I am taking this from information that has been given many, many times throughout the years.
I certainly am looking forward to seeing you at the meeting in June; for I am sure the condition will have cleared, if not wholly, sufficiently that a few days or weeks’ stay here would be a most desirable thing for her and her condition.
Thanking you for your letter, ensuring you of our interest and desire to be of help, and with all good wishes and regards. I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
