[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ga. (By questions)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here - [5520] - this we have had before. Conditions existent are better than that as we have had before. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What caused him to have the bloody diarrhea? (A) Improper eliminations produced by the discharge in the system of refuse forces in an over or excess quantity, and the system responding, attempting to correct itself; throwing, then, the blood in an extra amount or quantity through this portion of system, causing such inflammation as to produce an excess of the mucus producing portion of intestines and caecum.
-
(Q) What is best to lubricate his bowels and cause them to move? Should he take Squibb’s Liquid Petrolatum? What can be added to his diet to make his bowels less firm? (A) The Squibb’s may be taken. The better would be to use Usoline in small quantities in conjunction with olive oil - pure olive oil, just what the system will assimilate. Beginning with a few drops once to twice each day. Every second to third day give half teaspoonful of the Usoline. These will be better than with any of the agar preparations, for with a developing body, those that are nearer in conformity to a developing system are better than that which will add to the system those properties that cause the necessity of a continued use of same, see? With the diet, also, this may be altered or changed considerable, as will be seen from the other questions you have here.
-
(Q) What causes him to cry whenever his kidneys want to act, and what will relieve this pain? (A) The proper manipulation of those centers and ganglia as control same will be the best stimuli for this condition, rather than that of drug or even of any OTHER; for this needs the proper stimuli, which will be found from the 9th, 10th and 12th dorsal, and the 3rd and 4th lumbar ganglia.
-
(Q) Is that what makes him cry out in his sleep? (A) This rather from the former experiences.
-
(Q) Will he have to be circumcised now or later? (A) BETTER that it be done at present.
-
(Q) What change in his diet? Should he take whole milk with or without cream? How much water added to 1 quart of milk? Is 1 quart of milk per day too much for him? (A) The whole milk - that of the cream and milk MIXED, and then one-fifth of water, will be the better for the body - and the one quart is the proper amount now for the body. Five parts milk, one part of water, see?
-
(Q) Does he need “Casec” in his milk now? (A) Not with the whole milk, as given.
-
(Q) Should some of the starch be taken off all his cereal? (A) No.
-
(Q) Should he eat brown rice with husk on it, or should it be run through a sieve? (A) Run through a sieve.
-
(Q) How much gruel per day? (A) Three to six ounces.
-
(Q) Should he eat cracked wheat or Wheatena? (A) Wheatena.
-
(Q) Whole wheat bread? (A) Whole wheat bread.
-
(Q) Can he take one Graham cracker per day? (A) One, or one and a HALF a day.
-
(Q) Should he eat mashed beans, peas, potatoes and spinach? or just the broth off of these? (A) The broth off of these, and a portion occasionally of the bean, lentil, or spinach. Spinach excellent for the body.
-
(Q) Should he take cooked figs or raisins? (A) Cooked figs or raisins occasionally are well for the body. Both carry those properties of the iron, also of the bitumen, that are excellent for the developing of the body. Also will aid in the digestive forces for the system, causing that laxness as is necessary. Also there may be added that occasionally of the prune.
-
(Q) What causes him to hiccough so much? (A) The development of the body. A natural inclination with growing conditions in a body.
-
(Q) Would the climate of …, Ga., be beneficial? (A) Not necessarily so. We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/28/29 Mother [4280]‘s letter: ”…I’ve wanted to write you for last month but the baby [5520] and [4281] and I have all had the ‘flu’.
“The baby [5520] was critically ill and he doesn’t digest solid foods since.
“He and [4281] were taken with high fever December 28th; and I came down five days later.
“[4281] and I are improving but the baby [5520] isn’t gaining nor improving very much. He has a terrible rash on his face and it is very raw and itches. He has never had a blemish on his skin before and his skin is very fair and thin; so this bothers him a great deal.
“Please see what is causing this rash? We think it may be the canned tomato juice. You said be careful of the acid in the canned tomato!
“Please tell me if the ‘Bedford Brand’ put up in Virginia are safe; if not please see what brand of tomatoes are safe for him? See if the orange juice agrees with him. He takes the juice of three nearly every day. Dr. Layne thinks it may be the orange juice or whole wheat bread. Please see just what it is and tell me! Please see if he can now digest oatmeal, Wheatena, Ralston and barley. Is there too much starch in Wheatena or any of the named cereals? Should he have baked Irish or sweet potato? and how much? Should he take peas, beans, run through sieve? Should he have raw carrot juice? If so, how much? Should all his cereals and vegetables be put through sieve now? Can he take well-cooked beef? Name all solid food that he needs now. Does he need graham or white bread? Can he take baked apple or raw scraped apple now?
“You said in last reading that he had better be circumcised now. The doctor who does this in … said he couldn’t take ether now - that we would have to wait until four or five years old! Please see if this could be done now, soon, I mean without it hurting him? Would he have to take a drug, and would it harm him in any way? I know I can depend on what YOU tell me… I will send you an offering just as soon as we can possibly do so. You never can know just how much we appreciate your kindness to us. With sincerest wishes for you and your good work from all of us, sincerely…”
R2. 2/8/29 GD wrote making the appointment, stating that EC had been ill and had gotten far behind with his appointments.
R3. 2/21/29 Mother [4280]‘s letter: ”…I wrote you a few days ago and asked a few questions about [5520]‘s diet. He was two years old the 18th of February. I forgot to tell you that, and please see if he can digest whole milk now, or should it be diluted any? I am diluting it as I was the past two months. Should he have raw or cooked milk? We have been afraid to give him any raw milk since he had the dysentery so badly. Can he digest the whole wheat bread, oatmeal, Wheatena, Ralston, also graham crackers? Do any of these things cause the breaking out, or irritation on his face? This seems to be getting worse and worse and worries him quite a bit. Should he take all the starch on his cereals or only part? Can he digest raw or baked or stewed apples? Can he digest prunes or prune juice? Should he eat baked Irish or sweet potato? Should he have any meat now? or breakfast bacon? If so, please name the kind of meat he needs. He is tired of all the vegetable broths. Should he be forced to eat them? Should he eat the natural brown rice plain with husk on, or strained? Should he have any kind of sugar? Can he take canned peaches without sugar? Should he eat rice pudding? Please tell me just what causes too much acid? …”
R4. 2/18/29 Mrs. [4280] wrote again, submitting the same questions, saying that he [5520] had an itchy breaking-out now also on his legs as well as face.
R5. 2/28/29 EC gave the fifth reading - 5520-5.
