This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 25th day of May, 1934, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [325], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [558]; this we have had before.

2. As we find, the conditions in the present are of the more acute nature; while they arise from many of those things that were not wholly eliminated from the body - of which we have warned the body respecting before; that there should be sufficient of the eliminations to make for the organs being able to adjust themselves from a normal angle or stand.

3. In the present we find there are two specific conditions, yet the nature of the pressure caused in the system makes them contributory one to another. However, both conditions will require local and specific attention, and a general reaction in the system to rid the body of the disorders.

4. First, we have an engorgement in the descending colon. And while there have been the activities through the alimentary canal, this engorgement has allowed fecal forces to remain in the system until it forms something of the nature of an impaction; though not that exactly, but simply that the toxic forces are allowed to be carried back into the circulation.

5. There is also a congestion in the organs of the pelvis, so that the inflammation from the intestinal disorder and the congestion or cold in the left ovary has given rise to these disorders in this particular area.

6. And with the poisons in the system, and those conditions in the head, the face, being of a sympathetic nature, and then the cold and congestion added to same, there has been produced an acute condition in the glands of the throat, in the head, and the pains that even go to the eyes; causing some swelling internally in all these portions of the system, you see.

7. These are the conditions as we find them.

8. The better manner for meeting same, as we find, would be as follows:

9. First we would in the beginning have a high enema to remove the fecal forces in the transverse and descending colon. To each quart and a half of tepid water (a little above tepid enough to relax the system) add a level teaspoonful of salt and a heaping teaspoonful of baking soda.

10. For the local condition in head or teeth, REMOVE those conditions there; for this wisdom tooth, as we find, is not set properly, and would continue to cause trouble. The position of the tooth causes the sympathetic reactions and accumulations of poisons, that makes the fullness or flushness in face. We would remove the tooth at once, and then begin with the properties outlined below along with it; for while there will be some little trouble in removing the tooth itself, if a poultice of milk and figs is used on same the after effects will be very little.

11. We would begin taking internally the anti-acid digestant powder known as AL-CAROID, at least two doses four hours apart; half a teaspoonful in two glasses of water at each dose.

12. Then, four hours after taking the last (second) dose, take two CAROID Bile Salts tablets. And the next day take two again.

13. After there has been taken the CAROID Bile Salts tablets for a day or two, there should be begun the Syrup of Figs in broken doses; half to a teaspoonful taken two or three times a day or about two hours apart, or half a teaspoonful taken an hour apart, until there is a thorough reaction from same.

14. Keep the body quiet. Particularly keep the feet warm; and it would be well if the feet were bathed once or twice a day in hot mustard water, a level teaspoonful to about two gallons or two gallons and one half of hot water - as hot as the feet can stand, rubbing the feet and limbs to the knees or above the knees THOROUGHLY when the feet are put into the water. See? This would stimulate the circulation to the lower extremities and take it away from the head, until the eliminations have cleansed the system sufficient that there may be started the proper circulation.

15. As to the matter of diet during these periods, we would stick to a citrus fruit and liquid diet. Afterwards, we would then keep more of an alkalin reaction in the diet and not too great a quantity of those things that tend to make for stubborn activity in the liver; such as condiments, or pickles, lots of pepper, greases or fats - for these should not be very much in the diet, you see. Keep rather the green and fresh vegetables and the citrus fruit. When meats are taken, only use well-cooked lamb, fowl or fish; all of these are good, but not too great a quantity.

16. Do these, and we will bring for the body the better conditions.

18. (Q) What causes pain on left side? (A) As indicated, sympathetic condition in ovary or in the organs of the pelvis; primary condition engorgement in the descending and transverse colon, which causes the gas formations and the pains in the abdomen.

19. (Q) Is there any further advice for the better welfare of this body? (A) In the physical forces we would do these, and we will find we will bring the normal conditions for this body of [558].

A “high” enema may only be given properly by using such a syringe as Tyrrell’s Cascade Elevator, which may be obtained at most any drug store. Use water solution as directed.

Both the AL-CAROID and the CAROID Bile Salts tablets are made by the American Ferment Company, Buffalo, N.Y., but should be obtained at any drugstore.

Also the Syrup of Figs. I believe [257] was advised to take this once.

At present the diet is to be only oranges and grapefruit (without sugar) and a liquid diet, but later it is suggested that there be principally an ALKALIN reacting diet. Below I am listing the principal alkalin forming foods, [See under 843-1 Reports.] of which your principal diet should consist - with the exception of the meats mentioned, in moderation: Mother [325], of course will know how to prepare the hot mustard foot baths; in the proportions directed, etc.

Note to Mother [325]:

After the tooth is removed, prepare the poultice as follows: Obtain dried figs, unsweetened, and soak in warm milk; then lay over the gums and place in mouth to remove pain, and inflammation.)

R1. 5/28/34 Mother [325]‘s letter: “We received the rdg. and it is just like [558] felt. The rdg. was perfect, and as [558] took very ill we could not wait for the rdg., yet it checks up exactly with the doctor and the medicine was same as the doctor gave. She is feeling better but not well as yet. Thanks very much.”

R2. 5/27/34 Brother [257]‘s ltr.: “[558]‘s rdg. was wonderful - it was a great relief as the doctors had said it was very serious - she is better already and you checked the doctors 100% - many, many thanks.”

R3. 6/5/34 Mother [325]‘s ltr.: “[558] is getting better as all the medicines the rdg. gave the doctor gave her the same. She also has been terribly worried as [1565] wants her to move to Detroit. His father [592] has had an operation and [1565] must help them and give his part here, and it all upset her nerves of the stomach.”

R4. 6/16/34 “[558] has gone with [1565] to Detroit.”

R5. 7/12/34 “[1565]‘s father [592] and mother are going to live with [558], as the old man is not able to work any more.”

R6. 10/17/35 Mrs. [558]‘s mother, Mrs. [325], died. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. [903] [her brother [257]‘s wife] stated that Mrs. [558] displayed more stamina in the situation than anyone she had ever seen; that [558] took charge of that large family and handled everything beautifully. In fact, Mrs. [903] said, Mrs. [558] had been a source of inspiration and admiration in many ways for as long as she had known her.
