This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 29th day of May, 1934, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [325], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 5:25 to 5:35 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. N.Y.C. (Physical Suggestion - Body & enquiring mind. Questions.)
-
EC: Yes, we have the impressions here, and those conditions that surround the body from the physical, the mental and the material welfare of the body, [563].
-
As we find, there have been and are tendencies for the clogging of the ELIMINATING systems, so that what should be eliminated through the alimentary canal and respiratory system has made rather confusing conditions, owing to the inactivity of the bile or gall ducts.
-
And this is partly from those things the body has added in the way of not cosmetics exactly (and everyone should be very precautious about any type or character used), but rather those things that have been as a stoppage for the respiratory activity. This has in part affected the EMUNCTORY circulation, and has made the tendency for conditions in the superficial circulation that are unsatisfactory.
-
While it has not created as yet such an unbalanced condition as to produce any great character of disorder, save as to the mental forces feeling at times the conditions in face, head, and even in the soft tissue of the face - as in the antrum, as in the sinews, as in even the head portions about ear, the throat, and the activities that have made for sort of a dullness and laggardness and inactivity.
-
If these conditions are allowed to continue, we may bring detrimental effects to the body.
-
First we would leave off the use of the preparations that are in the nature of depilatories, and use rather the pure activity of water with a more ALKALIN reaction; such as the soap cosmetics used.
-
We would begin first with a thorough elimination of the alimentary canal, stimulating all of the respiratory system, especially from the centers along the cerebrospinal system, with the electrically driven vibrator. And after the vibrator treatment we would add the violet ray, to STIMULATE the superficial circulation to coordinate with the effects created by stimulating the activity of the liver, pancreas and the spleen, and eliminating the poisons from the system.
-
These for the general physical condition, as we find, will bring better conditions for the body.
-
Be mindful that not too large a quantity of fat, or butter, or any greases of any kind, would be used in the diet.
-
However, olive oil taken internally would be very effective, in small quantities; quarter of a teaspoonful three or four times each day would be helpful to the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How is the blood condition? (A) As indicated, irritated more especially in the superficial circulation than from the internal or organic disturbances. This is rather from those activities as indicated, in the EMUNCTORY circulation.
-
(Q) Have I thyroid trouble? (A) We do not find it so. Glands are disturbed rather by the inabilities of the system to create the activities necessary for coordination in the eliminations of the body.
-
(Q) What causes blisters on my foot, and how can I prevent them? (A) The poor circulation and the poisons attempting to eliminate themselves through the respiratory system, or sweat glands. Cleanse the system, purifying the blood, stimulating the circulation as we have indicated; and we find this should rid the body of these conditions. To be sure, the diet should be kept well balanced when this is being carried on; as indicated, not using large quantities of fats of any kind - though the stimulation for the food values necessary to the emunctory and lymph circulation, through the alimentary canal, by the use of the olive oil, will be most beneficial.
-
(Q) Please outline a proper diet for me. (A) As indicated, do not use fats or highly seasoned foods, but those that tend to be more of an ALKALIN nature are the better for the system. No large quantities of sweets at any time, especially of cane sugar, but rather sufficient of that necessary to keep proper digestion.
First we would cleanse the system as indicated; stimulating the superficial circulation, keeping an even balance in the diet. Not that the body should just eat this, or just eat that, but keep consistent activity in the system - in an ALKALIN PRODUCING reaction.
-
(Q) Is there any special advice to me as to the young man with whom I am keeping company? (A) As indicated for this body, the associations and relations in this direction should culminate in those activities that we have heretofore indicated for the body. Choose within self. If there is that response within self as to the character and nature, the associations of the body, then it would be well for marriage.
-
(Q) If so, will it be congenial for me to live with his mother? (A) For the first three years, yes; after that, not so well.
-
(Q) Any other advice that would be helpful to me just now? (A) If there are those considerations in these directions, all the more reason that there should be the proper precautions as to the activities in the directions indicated - respecting the general physical body.
The organic conditions are very good. The functional conditions, as indicated, are very much disturbed.
Produce, as it were, a balance; and keep a coordinating in the regular directions of the body-mental and physical.
- We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/29/34 See GD’s note to Miss [563] and her mother, Mrs. [325], in re alkalin-acid diet list, under 563-4, Par. R8.
R2. 6/5/34 Mother [325]‘s letter: “[563]‘s rdg. as far as the facial conditions are not there, [GD’s note: I think Mrs. [325] thought the reference in 563-4, Par. 4 was referring to a breaking out on the face, while to me it appears to refer to a sinus condition.] it fits [her sister] [460], but the blisters on feet come and go, but the rdg. gave no medicine. She is not ill, of course she gets sluggish once in a while. The question as to the young man in question did not help, as I wanted to know if she would eventually marry him, as she does not want to waste her time. It is not a matter of urge - just to know if he is the right man or not. Just ask if she will marry [2854] and when, or how soon he will be able to marry - if he is the right man - will he succeed in his present business or should he change? Ask these questions if the Forces say he is the right man. Please ask any questions that will fit in with the Forces’ answers.”
R3. 6/16/34 Mother [325]‘s letter: “[563] followed the rdg. and is o.k. again.”
R4. 6/6/35 Mother [325]‘s letter: “[563] graduated Tuesday from Ethical school and I was happy that I was here to be with her.”
R5. 9/13/35 Miss [563] submitted questions for her mother’s rdg. 325-62.
R6. GD’s note: Subsequently Miss [563] married young. Mr. [2854] in June 1936.
R7. 3/1/40 See 563-5 for hemorrhoids.
R8. 5/29/34 GD’s note to Miss [563] following 563-4 which told her to follow an alkalin diet:
See below a list of ALKALIN-producing foods and of ACID-producing foods according to Scientific Weight Control booklet, 1925, Continental Scale Works, Chicago. It says “Dietitians are generally agreed that an alkalin ration of approximately 4 to 1 makes the most satisfactory diet combination for general good health. This means four times as much alkalin forming foods as acid forming foods.” In order to have a diet tending towards the alkalin, as in your case and your mother’s (Mrs. [325]‘s), you should eat at least four times as much of these foods as you do any other; that is, a normal diet should consist of four parts alkalin and one acid. Therefore, to have an excess alkalin diet, you would eat hardly any acid foods at all (such as meats, sweets and starches).
ALKALIN FORMING FOODS - All fruits, fresh and dried, except LARGE prunes, plums and cranberries. Limes, Apricots, Raisins, Figs (unsulphured), Ripe olives, Dates, Small Sun Dried Prunes, Honey, Apples, Peaches, Pears, Pineapples, Oranges, Grapefruit, Lemons.
All vegetables, fresh and dehydrated, except legumes (dried peas, beans and lentils), rhubarb. Rutabaga, Radish, Lettuce, Tomatos, Parsnips, Spinach, Asparagus, Beets, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Onions, Green Peas, Celery, Carrots, Kohlrabi, Turnips, String Beans, Oyster Plant, Egg Plant.
Milk - All forms, buttermilk, clabber, sour milk, Cottage cheese, cheese.
There is a close relationship between alkalin forming foods and the non-starchy list.
ACID FORMING FOODS - All high protein foods - white sugar, syrups made from white sugar. MEATS - Beef, Pork, Mutton, Sausage, Lamb, Veal, Ham. FISH - Oysters, Clams, Lobster, All Fish, Fish Roe. VISCERAL MEATS - Beef hearts, Brains, Kidney, Liver, Sweetbreads, Pig hearts, Calf hearts, Thymus. EGG WHITES - Yolks are not acid forming. NUTS - Peanuts, English Walnuts, Pecans, Filberts, Coconut. LEGUMES - Dried Beans, Dried Peas, Lentils. ANIMAL FATS - Beef fat, Pork fat, Bacon, Fish oils, Lard, Tallow. ALL CEREAL GRAINS - AND OTHER PRODUCTS, such as, bread, breakfast foods, etc. Rolled Oats, Corn Meal Mush, Polished Rice, etc. Large prunes, Plums, Cranberries, Rhubarb.
