This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of May, 1931, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [5610], through Mr. [417].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, Mrs. [5610] - this we have had before. Now, in some respects we find considerable change in the physical forces of the body. While those conditions that are disturbing in the sensory system, if any change, are apparent to be more noticeable, or more active than they have been - that is, there is the consciousness of their EXISTENCE more. This, while is very discouraging to the body, may be expected to exist until there is the establishing of that increased circulation and drainage necessary to the auditory system, especially, and that there is the proper coordination in the sympathetic and cerebro-spinal in the upper dorsal and through the cervical region. While the Eustachian tube, as we find, do not show clogging, there is that inflammation or that condition which at times assumes those proportions as to cause inflammation along the channel itself, and there is the tendency for the lack of proper nutriment to keep that balance in fluids in the inner ear. That produces the unbalanced condition and the noises that are experienced.
-
In the general system, more enlivenment; yet those associations or connections with those of the assimilating system, the eliminating system, the drainages of the system, are involved also.
-
WE would change those of the treatments in such a way and manner as to ENLIVEN those nerves to the inner ear, making those corrections proper, making those applications to the throat, in the tonsil area, in the Eustachian area. We would advise those treatments as may be applied by Richardson. These, as we find, though there might be only a FEW in number, would so set or so alter the conditions that the GENERAL treatment carried out would make for bettered conditions. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) After eleven weeks of treatments there is no improvement in ears. Why? (A) This as has been outlined, that this has not reached the causes for conditions in the upper dorsal, through the cervical, and those conditions as result from a local condition in throat and along Eustachian tube. As suggested, would these corrections be made, ten days or two weeks would see a vast difference. While this would not be WHOLLY well, this would be on the ROAD to where the general treatments might and would keep the drainages near normal.
-
(Q) Why do noises in ears continue and at times are worse than prior to treatments? (A) Just as has been suggested, they stir UP - as it were - that same tendency to produce a dryness of the fluids in the inner ear. This has BEEN outlined.
-
(Q) Is the condition in ears chronic or incurable? (A) We haven’t given them such, have we? These may become chronic, to be sure - or what may be termed chronic, when the condition in dorsal AND cervical exists, as well as the local condition in throat. They are rather a RESULTANT condition!
-
(Q) Will I ever have perfectly normal hearing and how long should this take? (A) That will depend entirely upon the applications made for the correction of the conditions, as to whether it will be normal and as to how long it will take!
-
(Q) Are the lamp and irrigation treatments being given correctly and should they be continued and how often? (A) These are very good, and they should be continued WHEN the time comes. We would make these personal or direct applications under the supervision of one using such a treatment as has been outlined.
-
(Q) Any suggestions regarding change of diet? (A) Not in the present.
-
(Q) Would the seashore help or harm this body’s condition? (A) If where the climatic tendency is for a dry - that is, not a damp - not a shore where there is the tendency for that of fogs and the like.
-
(Q) Is the exercise body now taking correct for dark spots in eyes or how should they be done and how often? (A) We will change these conditions when those conditions as we have given for local conditions are made correct.
-
(Q) The cracky sound in left ear when body swallows saliva is still there and is there a change in treatment that can relieve this condition? (A) This has been given. All of these have been covered in that outline as given, see?
-
(Q) What causes cramps just prior to menstruation period? (A) The position of the uterus itself.
-
(Q) Do you find any reason for non-pregnancy? (A) The position of the uterus and of the CONDITIONS existent, see?
-
(Q) Should I see a doctor? If so, who and what treatment? (A) These SHOULD be taken care of by the whole general treatment as has been outlined for the body, for with the correction of conditions in the lower dorsal and lumbars should make for a correction of these conditions. Some local treatment may become necessary, but not until these have been fully carried out - see?
-
(Q) Has this any bearing on ear condition? (A) We do not find it so.
-
That is all the questions regarding this body.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/20/31 Mrs. [5610] arrived at Miss Annie Cayce’s nursing home and that same day had an examination by Dr. M. L. Richardson, a specialist in osteopathic therapy for eye, ear, nose and throat.
R2. 5/21/31 Report by Dr. M. L. Richardson:
Mrs. [5610], 417 - 22nd St. Virginia Beach, Va.
Report on examination made May 20, 1931.
Diagnosis: Otosclerosis - a type of ear disease characterized by head noises and progressive impairment of hearing.
Etiology: The conditions of which you now complain are really secondary to a long standing nasopharyngitis (catarrh) which causes a thickening of the mucous membrane lining the postnasal spaces and around the Eustachian tubes and then extended to the tubes and middle ears. It has also produced adhesive bands from the ear tubes to the back wall of the nose binding the tube and hindering its normal actions. The ear tubes are thus unable to perform their normal functions of ventilation, drainage, and circulation to the ears, and the normal offices [orifices?] of the ears are gradually impaired.
Prognosis: Taken at this stage the usual result of treatment is to stop progress and give definite and permanent relief and improvement.
Discussions: No treatment to your ears or tubes can be of any permanent help so long as the condition described in the postnasal spaces and around the ear tubes remains to feed trouble anew to the tubes and ears.
The plan of treatment proposes therefore:
1st - A corrective finger operation to remove and destroy the excess tissue and adhesions in the postnasal spaces, and two after treatments in next 10 days, and
2nd - A month or six weeks later a second finger operation to reconstruct the ear tubes, restoring them to size opening and position, re-establishing ventilation, drainage and circulation to the ears, and
3rd - Six weeks after treatment must immediately follow the above - two or three treatments per week - to maintain the corrected tube conditions, and to prevent the formation of adhesions until the restored conditions will remain without further help.
To avoid disappointment it is well to caution that material benefit to hearing or head noises must not so much be expected during the course of treatment as later, treatment restores conditions on which ear health depends, function follows structure.
My treatment is definite, systematic, and progressive, and will give happy results only when carried out completely as outlined. The treatment outlined here is the minimum I dare offer you, the conditions to be remedied here have been years in forming and time also is necessary to correct them. Cure depends on the healing powers of nature, and nature takes her own time and can be aided but not hurried. Although no physician can guarantee anything about a human body, even that a condition will not progress in spite of suitable treatment, the expectation in your case is given only after careful tests and examination, a record of results in similar cases, and a consideration of your favorable age and general health.
Treatment is all given in my office. The oxygen gas anaesthetic which is given twice, although complete in its effect is not unpleasant to take, recovery from it is prompt and without unpleasant after effects.
My fees are usually - corrective finger operations (2)
100. each. All other necessary treatments5.00 each. I expect those who are able to accept my usual fees, at the same time I am always ready to make some accommodation to those who might otherwise be denied treatment. I do this by suitable reduction of the two operating fees, the others to remain as given.Sincerely yours,
