[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 11:05 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.J.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions that have been submitted, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes.
-
As we find, conditions in the present do not appear to be greatly improved from some of the periods through which the body has been passing. These are the conditions that as we find are inclined to come and go, GOVERNED considerably by the amount of anxiety that is aroused in the surroundings for the body at periods when there is the change in the Moon.
-
These are not then purely mental aberrations but physical also.
-
We find that the Castor Oil Packs over the abdomen and right side would be well occasionally for the lack of eliminations. When these ARE applied, and the general massage is given following same, give a quantity of Olive Oil - just so it is not sufficient to cause regurgitation or vomiting, we will find it will work well with the assimilating, and act as a food as well as an eliminant for the alimentary canal.
-
The Oil rubs have not been given as CONSISTENTLY as has been indicated.
-
When possible we would keep the vibrations of the Appliance as suggested.
-
We find that the suggestive treatments will be more quieting to the body if they are continued in the present, especially during those periods when it is the INCREASE of the Moon and the full activity, or during the light of the Moon period.
-
The tendencies for violent reactions to manipulations - do not OVERFORCE, of course; but these are necessary if there will be the better conditions brought for the body.
-
The greater electrical vibration of a high voltage, under the supervision of a doctor, would be well - if the SUGGESTIONS are used at such periods. The violet ray that is merely held in the hand would be most effective for the body to have during the periods when the suggestions or auto-suggestions are given.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is coordination of emotional and physical improving? (A) At times it is better; at others not so well - as we find at such periods indicated. But if these suggestive forces and electrical forces will be given as indicated, at the same period, BETTER results in this direction may be obtained.
-
(Q) How many minutes should massage be given to back? (A) As long as it is possible; not just for so many minutes; but the masseur or masseuse should be able to at least partially relax the body, and unless this can be accomplished it’s not doing much good - whether it’s a minute or thirty minutes!
-
(Q) Is the nervous system improving? (A) Not so much. Hence the suggestions.
-
(Q) What may be done to keep blood pressure down? It frequently rises to 240. (A) The eliminations are what are necessary. Enemas if possible!
-
(Q) Shall powdered milk be continued? (A) So long as it agrees, yes.
Do these things as suggested for the better conditions of this body.
- We are through with this Reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/3/38 Letter from EC to Mr. [1561] [Mrs. [1553]‘s son-in-law]: “After such a reading [See 1553-7] - Well there isn’t much to say for the time being anyway - seems for the moment all that might be said has been said and is for us to do something about it. Such conditions are a growth of circumstance - Karma - or what have you - and the awakening of the forces of Divine within has to be aroused to activity
- that may be coordinate to meet the conditions of today. Just hope there will be more and more help coming to Mrs. [1553]. All send love and best wishes to you all.”
R2. 10/17/38 Letter from Mr. [1561] to EC; written on Columbia Univ. Club stationery: Our very dear Edgar: “Whew! A mixture of procrastination with busy hours has piled up so much I would chat with you about. First, I joyfully thank the total you: Next I would say, the wee note re and accompanying the last check reading about Mrs. [1553], rather puzzled me - Hugh Lynn has it completely dissipated the jog. Yes - I believe the great ‘plan’ - source of ALL wisdom and perfection, can comprise nought but effects of causes (karma) regarding ALL who may directly or indirectly find themselves within ANY situation - thus I wonder re [1553] - & realize, too, my own lack of qualification - my own unworthiness - Anyway, we carry on & try and try to REALLY FEEL & KNOW the process - ‘Not MY will but thy will be done in me.’
“How difficult it is to emulate the vacuum in the ‘Madza’ ere the Shine may enter! Empty of Selfdom! Question our motive and we find it to some degree tinctured with ‘I should like it THIS way.’ So - with the utmost discretion and discrimination of which we are capable, we TRY to follow that infallible authority within - I say ‘within’ yet it seems within - without - no where it isn’t! Yet our strongest - personal if you please - contact seems to BE within - is this not so?
”[…]‘s mother [1553] ‘carries on’ to the amazement of her first ‘regular’ doctors!
“We hope Dr. Garrett will resume treatments - mental suggestion - shortly - he has been unable to since last of June - they TRY to follow all that is prescribed - but some are difficult - difficult - that last prescribed - hot castor oil packs simply can’t be done - unless hypnotized or a series of suggestions! At first attempt, her vocal remonstrance might well have been heard at Arctic Crescent!”
R3. 12/10/38 Questions submitted by Mr. [1561]:
- Do you find improvement?
- Dr. Garrett (mental suggestor) brought out a Dr. Jacques Romano - did Romano help? [Jacques Romano, Mind Reader; prestidigitator; legerdemain]
- Does Romano’s iodine taken internally help?
- Does Romano’s iodine on left knee help?
- Was her throat condition result of a cold?
- Did Romano help or cure this condition?
- We have been unable to have Dr. Garrett since the last rdg. because he could not come to … Should his weekly visits be resumed when he can?
- How do you find her blood pressure?
- Is her system fairly free from poisons?
- Is the little violet ray apparatus which is in the closet in [1553]‘s room, the correct thing to use? Holding the glass door-nob in her hand?
R4. 12/12/38 He obtained 1553-8.
R5. 1/1/39 See 1553-9.
R6. 3/20/39 Mr. David E. Kahn wrote EC: “We were at this meeting the other night where there were five doctors but Romano tried to use all the time for himself. I allowed him to talk from 9 until 12 and when my time came at the insistence of the group, every time I would tell one story he had to tell 5 of his own on what he did. If you ask me, I still have the same idea of him that I had in 1924 and that is ‘he is all the bunk’ - he is entertaining with his slight of hand performance and that is all. I will certainly see that I am not again in an evening where he is present because the tales he tells are the same ones I have heard over and over again whenever I have met him. He knows all the answers - so he says - he even knows more about you than you know about yourself. He thinks you are a wonderful man but not half so much as himself and you know what a hit that makes with me.”
R7. 3/23/39 EC’s reply: “Have known Jacques Romano since 1905 or thereabout, and my first experience to me has always stamped him. He is a wonderful fellow, and I suppose he has done a lot of good here and there. Who am I to judge what is good and what is bad?”
R8. 10/11/39 Mrs. H. B. Harrell, Jr. wrote EC: “Mr. Jacques Romano was in D.C. one day last week on business and spent the night at the Grafton Hotel. That evening he talked to about twenty people in the lobby for about an hour on how to take care of their bodies, and then he did some card tricks. He said he knew you and Hugh Lynn, and expressed himself as being very much interested in Hugh Lynn’s radio program [WOR Mysteries of the Mind].”
R9. 10/13/39 EC’s reply: “Yes, I have known Mr. Romano for 25 or more years. Yes, first met him in 1904. He certainly can do some clever tricks with cards, and is good on mind reading also.”
R10. 7/30/52 See Source File Key #358 for clipping in on Romano’s iodine re 358-2.
