GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces, giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving the time, the place, and the name, and that in that life which built or retarded the development for the entity - giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how.
-
EC: Yes we have the entity here, and those relations with universe and universal forces, as are latent and exhibited in the present experience.
-
In entering the earth’s plane we find the entity coming under the influence of Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Mars, with adverse influences in Saturn and Moon’s phases.
-
In the influence in the life, we find in the present experience much has been builded through will’s forces, for ever should it be remembered that will’s influence in the earthly experience bears the greater influence in the life - yet from the urges seen through the experiences in the various spheres brings much in the life of good and ennobling influence; yet there are those experiences when the entity has applied rather the will to overcome many conditions that have presented themselves as those elements to be subdued or overcome to gain the better control of self towards development towards an ideal as set in self’s own way.
-
One, then, with high ennobling influences, governed principally by love - even to the extent where the mental forces have given an urge that such were unwise, yet the urge and that set for self has brought much to the entity through the abilities to manifest confidence where even this was not wholly felt.
-
In the urge through Mars’ forces brings that at times of the temper that has been subdued in part through that of self’s will to apply that of love and forbearance, rather than that as would appear in the urge to enact at that time.
-
One that brings much confidence to others through the acts as carried out by self in development towards that idea set for self.
-
One that gives much of self for the enlightenment of others through that of love for fellow man, and for the expressing of that urge felt in that - sweets draw many more flies than vinegar. This often felt in self as true, that to show one to be worthy one must be worthy in self.
-
One that finds much in common with those that ring true, and little in common with those who would climb up some other way.
-
One that enjoys the joke, the pleasure as expressed in clean wholesome fun, yet little in common with that that belittles or besmirches any individual as individual, or as race or people.
-
One that will give much understanding to others through the application of those conditions that bring the better understanding of application toward the ideal in the individual life, for to the entity - as the good is manifest - the body, the entity, good. To that as is of show, or of any favor that besmirches or belittles self for position, power, or such - THESE are little in the eyes of the entity.
-
Beware, though, of expressions in the temper, or in the power of the body physical OR mental over the weak for the urge often comes to exercise such. Never turn same for self’s own interest, for - as will be seen through experiences in the earth’s plane - much may be lost through aggrandizement of selfish motives. Little of self is held in esteem above others, would there be humble and the contrite heart before the creative forces that give - give - to others that the understanding of relations between men as men, or man’s relation to the creative forces - for in selfishness is the greatest plague, the greatest hindrance, the greatest barrier towards man’s own development. Hence beware of association or the contact of self towards those who would give their own bodies and souls for position, power, fame, or monies.
-
In the appearances, and those urges seen from same:
-
In the one before this we find during that period when much was being attempted in this present land. The entity then among those who builded for the good of those to come, ministering in many ways and in many manners to the needs of the nation yet unborn, and many of the words in verse, in line, are often yet quoted in schools, in places of learning, in copy. In the name then Franklin. The entity gained through this experience, giving self in SERVICE to many, rather than turning same into channels for self’s own interest, as might have been done through that experience. In the urge is seen that of the love of the young, and of the making toward better manhood in the home, in the office, in the field.
-
In the one before this we find in that period when the walls were being rebuilt in the Holy City. The entity then among those who resisted those that builded, being in that of Sanbad, the armor bearer to Sanballat - and the entity lost through this experience, for those that builded builded in a purpose. Those that resisted did so for the satisfaction of the self and for the power that might be given to self through that of destructive forces to man, and that the builders represented. Bringing to self destructive forces through aggrandizement of selfish interest. The urge as is seen from same, that of mistrust in some that build towards selfish motives, even though the appearance is good.
-
In the one before this we find in that period when divisions rose in the land now known as Egyptian. The entity then among those that counseled with the ruler, being the FATHER of that ruler who set the house in order, being then in the kingdom of the palace and coming from the north country subdued the natives, and establishing the kingdom upon which the foundations were laid for the first of the manifested study of man’s relation to man and God’s relation to man, establishing same as was carried on by the young ruler, even DURING the king’s own lifetime, being among those that counseled for the return of the priest and the re-establishing of the school or church, and the assistant to that counsellor that gave the tenets to the people, even though the counsellor was the native. In the urge as is seen, the WONDERFUL forbearance to all peoples in all positions, and the entity GAINED through that experience, losing only in that desire to subdue. Remove such far - far - from that as it appears in the urge from time to time, even with forbearance, for each entity has its own troubles to meet. Rather give counsel, even as given during that experience in the earth’s plane.
-
In the abilities as are seen, the urge or the ability to lead, guide, and direct. Guard then self in the way and manner that the self is lost in the glorifying of Him that gave self that man might be the nearer to that oneness with the All Creative Force that shines unto the darkest corners and brings life and light to the end. Keep the faith, and in the faith worshipfulness ever in Him.
-
We are through.

That part especially relating to findings that would establish the authenticity, we might say, of the rdgs., such as that given in re Mexico, Nevada, and other places. [165] has been interested in this for a number of years; in fact, he is assisting or directing some of the searches being made. If we study his Life Rdg., as he has done himself, we would find why. This is the part seemingly that has interested him most, for he felt, as he said to me, that no one else knew anything about it, but the readings knew.”

We are all beginning again and I think more sanely than before. Some of us have fewer years to come back in than others and have to go at it that much more sanely and cheerfully and energetically and prayerfully. I need rdgs. more than ever, but am still clearing out old obligations and will be for two years yet and while I’ll not wait 2 years for rdgs. I can’t do it yet. Hope you are well and at least mentally comfortable, and also your good family. Hope to get to see you some time soon. We are all getting to agree that there is some good in the Japs, Hoover, prohibition, the depression (and some bad) but none of them are the main issue.” Sincerely, [165]

“This seemed particularly interesting in light of the death of [165] in a car accident:”
“A man is not completely born until he is dead. When then should we grieve that a new child is born among the immortals? We are spirits. That bodies should be lent to us, while they can afford us pleasure, assist us in acquiring knowledge or in doing good to our fellow creatures, is a kind and benevolent act of God. When they become unfit for these purposes and afford us pain instead of pleasure, instead of an aid become an encumbrance, it is equally kind and benevolent that a way is provided by which we may get rid of them. Death is that way.”
(Written by Benj. Franklin - as Benjamin Franklin.)

7/26/29 Historical Data and Connections of [165], being a treatise on the entity’s relation and relationships with [others closely associated in the work of the] Assoc. of Nat’l Investigators. Compiled and edited by the Historical Committee of the ANI, from the Life Rdgs. of Edgar Cayce.
Hugh Lynn Cayce Thomas Sugrue Gladys Davis
This [gathering of] data is not a simple collection of our ideas concerning your life reading. It is the result of a great deal of study and comparison of your life reading with many others who are at the present time connected in this work. We believe that an understanding of the life readings will lead to a better understanding among the individuals who are attempting to work and build together at this time in our Association. From the various connections in past experiences there have come the many urges that both develop and retard the entity. To understand a condition is to become master of it - for a man with a developed will power. Understanding will bring cooperation and cooperation is essential to the progress of the WORK.
EC Work Rdg. 254-50, on 7/14/29: “In these things then, let each be mindful of that place, that niche, that purport each is to fill, and fill that with all the power, might, strength, that lies within that body! So cooperate with other individuals, working in their individual capacities, that the whole purport may be as one, even as the Father and I are one in you. I speak not of myself, but that ye may know the truth even as delivered in the day when I walked among men and became known as the Son of Man, and the savior of a beknighted race. Here, my brethern, ye are come again to fulfil, in this place, a glorious principle, a glorious article of work among the sons of man. Let each, then, in that power that may be gained in that association of the forces as manifest through each, become one in purpose.”
It seems that some twelve thousand years ago there was builded in Egypt a work similar in many respects to our present endeavors. That period in the history of the world, which the readings tell us was one of the highest points of civilization reached as yet by man, has an influence on the present, an influence which is only governed by what we choose to make of our lives today. At that time you held an important and responsible place and the urges which you bring over from that time are naturally very strong. Some of these hinder you, others help you. Due to the importance of this period it might be well to understand your position at that time, your urges and their present effects before we go into a discussion of your connections with various individuals.
Egypt:
As Arart, a leader and ruler of a northern country, you came down from the north upon Egypt and conquered the country. (See [5748 series] Egyptian History, inclosed) You found that to mould the progress of the nation you would have to gain the confidence of the people whom you had conquered. Therefore, you withdrew as the active director and by raising a promising young native scribe to power and pitting against him your son [900 and 341, respectively], surrounding them with a group of influential councillors, establishing a powerful high priest [294] (Edgar Cayce) and guiding and advising each and everyone of them you were able to see develop a great civilization. Much of the success of the attempted progress was due to your great understanding and handling of the men whom you inspired to greater and greater endeavors.
From this appearance you bring into the present two of the greatest urges which go to make up your individuality. There is the great forbearance to all peoples, a wonderful driving principle. Then, there is the urge to subdue, to conquer, to master, a dangerous driving principle.
In the present these two in a certain manner conflict and bring some worry to you not only in business and social relations but in your work in this Association. An outstanding example of this is your attitude toward [900], or putting it in a better way your attitude toward one another. If you will study the period and the various individuals you contact you will be able to better understand why you feel as you do at times and why they likewise are caught at times by the winds of urges. With understanding for you will come forbearance and development.
[900]
Egypt:
At this period [900] was a young native scribe who was highly respected by the people. You realized his abilities and influence and raised him to the position of chief scribe and learned man to the young ruler, your son, [341]. You encouraged these two to work in a bit competitive spirit in attempting to give the greater understanding to the people. There was naturally at first a certain amount of antagonism between you as he considered you the outsider and conquerer of his people and you considered him as one of ability, as much or more than your son. This must have been overcome as you recognized and raised him to power. However, you probably suggested to your son that he be chosen rather than directly approaching him. As you came to a better understanding of one another you worked well together.
In the present there would naturally arise in [900], as you first approach the work, the fear that you are again come to conquer. Innately there is that feeling that you are an outsider. And in approaching him you feel innately that he is incapable, out of place, and doesn’t like you. There arises the desire to master him and put him in his place. You feel the ability to control and guide, as you did in Egypt, the whole situation.
Now in the present you must again recognize [900]‘s abilities and his attitude toward the work. This later you will find is not nearly so material as you have thus far considered it. [900] developed in the Egyptian experience great abilities to give an understanding to people of spiritual truths. He labored then under the hardship of being one oppressed and for his development at that time he has been chosen to head up the active beginning of the work this time. He is not a great executive as his present position would denote but is a teacher and a student, one who will gradually wrap himself in his theosophical angle of the work. You who then were the guide and directing power naturally innately cannot understand his present position at the head of the work which you directed before. Then, you at first naturally are prone to be a bit jealous of his insight and theosophical ability. Understand the man, his ideas and ideals and get them first hand and not through some one else. You can work with him. You can help him through advice and council. And once you have come to an understanding together you may accomplish a great deal. Gradually but surely he will become absorbed in his writing and lecturing and teaching in his way. You will strengthen and lend to him a background which will be of infinite value to him. You and [900] will naturally be interested in fields of endeavor, in angles of the work which will always bring you into a contact of one backing and advising the other - never active in the exactly same field. Consider well the quotations from some of his readings which accompany this. Come to understand the man and you will have taken a step to greatly advance the progress of the work.
In this period [900] was one of those who worked with those who labored at rebuilding the walls of the Holy City. He came in contact with you perhaps only indirectly as the armor bearer to the one attacking the city. At that time [953] was the one who labored with those working on the walls and was sent out to parley with the leader whom you followed. Later when he enters into an active connection with the work you will be able to work through him very nicely with the [[900] & [137] brothers]. In other words he will be of help to you.
(Note in this last connection [953]‘s relation with you in Egypt.)
In the present this appearance brings to you the active force of disagreement with [900]. This assumes more of the physical attitude at times, of course more urge than action. Remember that this time he is not on the opposing side but working with you in spirit if not in form at present. Don’t let this urge cause flares of temper which it would tend to do. While you lost during this appearance the urge is to hate anything that is done for a selfish interest. You did that then and naturally hate it now.
[195]
Egypt:
[195] during his appearance in Egypt was in your household and related to you, perhaps a brother or some other close relative. He became the important builder of the period and gave much through applying in a physical manner the ideas and principles presented during the period. During this time he was closely connected with [900] and worked with him. This undoubtedly opens up a means of approach to [900], for [195] would while perhaps disagreeing with you at times on definite propositions favoring [900], would like you instinctively as you would like him.
[953]
Egypt:
At this period Mr. [953] was brought in by you from the north and established in the position of chief councillor to yourself and then to [341], your son, whom you placed on the throne at an early age. [953] became one of the most influential men of the time and had a great deal to do with guiding the principles and work as then carried on. He was particularly opposed to the high priest, [294] Edgar Cayce, and councilled his banishment.
In the present [953] has for you, without knowing you, a natural respect and faith in your ability. You and he will work well together when once he begins to take an active part in the work, as he will unless he attempts to hold himself through his will away from the Association. In understanding his attitude it is well to remember that he was the one who directly caused [294] Edgar so much trouble before and this time desires to make personal retribution to him. Remember that when [900] took up the active promotion of the work, [953] simply saw in him a Jew, a business man trying to gain material success from the readings. The Association of National Investigators Inc. was the New York crowd’s creation and not his way of doing the thing. He would have preferred to see that [294] Edgar obtained the money whereby he might carry on the work as he wished it. Therefore, [953] drew off to consider the whole proposition. He felt that unless he could be of financial assistance they should be allowed to run things their way. He does not understand the ideas and the ideals which are back of the men who are now interested in the work and he cannot see clearly his own part in the work as yet. Gradually he will be drawn in, possibly through the archaeological work in which he is extremely interested. Once he has become connected he will be of great assistance to the work as a whole and especially to you personally.
During this time Mr. [953] was one of those who worked on the walls of the Holy City. You were the armor bearer to the attacking leader. [953] worked directly with the [[900] & [137] brothers] and [257] on this wall and was the one sent to parley with the attackers. From his efforts peace was established for a time.
In the present there would naturally arise a certain conflict between you but one which could always be settled with reasoning and consideration. [953] is a business man, a good executive, and will gradually slip into such a position with relation to the actual work of the Association.
[137]
At this time [137] was an armor bearer to Ezekiel who led the return of the Jews to the Holy City. He occupied a position corresponding to your own except that you were on opposing sides. There was perhaps no personal conflict at this time but simply a feeling of being on opposite sides of the fence.
In the present this urge for the period may be seen. A slight feeling of opposition yet no definite contact. You will find that [137]‘s development in a spiritual manner has been very great and his desire to be of aid to his fellow man far exceeds any urge which may show up now and then for a moment. You will find him, as you come to know him better, a wonderful person from the angle of the application of love in his everyday life.
[341]
Egypt:
This is the only appearance in which you contacted this entity. At this time you were very close together as father and son. Not only was there developed a personal association but each of you came to recognize and respect the abilities of the other. You found that you would be unable to develop the resources of the nation you had conquered unless you gained the cooperation of the natives and really gave to them as much as you expected them to give to you. Realizing that you represented the conquerer and destroyer to the peoples you drew away into the background. By placing your son on the throne at an early age and surrounding him with a competent group of councillors you were able to guide the policies of the nation and not appear as the active force. You suggested that a young native scribe be raised to a position of power because you recognized his abilities and realized his influence on the people. By pitting your son against him you were able to get a great deal of work out of them both. By guiding and directing and advising, you began the building of one of the world’s highest civilizations, yet unrecorded by history.
At this time, of course, there exists between you and [341] a natural bond both personal and practical. By practical I mean that there exists an interest in the same fields of work and a parallel of ideas concerning the general matters of the Association. You will find [341] useful as a channel through whom to work with other individuals in the immediate connection of the entity. You will find him at times too extreme in his ideas and too prone to rush away at a tangent. He will appreciate your advice. He will reason with you. He won’t be driven very far.
[257]
Egypt:
During this period [257] was a priest and one who favored the priest [294] (Edgar Cayce) who was banished. There would arise from this no personal antagonism but rather a disagreement on principles and ideas. You undoubtedly regarded him at this time as one who favored the wrong side of the question but rather to be pitied than hated, rather a misdirected mind.
In the present there would arise from this period a tendency to disagree over ideas and abstract propositions coupled with a desire to help the man gain a bit larger insight into the higher values of life as you see them. Don’t let him influence you too much. Study and understand the man and know that his angle of approaching the work is always personal and tinged with the strange fire which he attempted to burn on the altar at that time. One who in Egypt tried to accomplish something through other means than those used in the regular temple worship and therein brought trouble to himself and the condemnation of many. This time he is trying to make up, as it were, to everyone and bring everyone into contact with the work yet always there is the same business angle, his strange fire in this appearance. Don’t accept [257]‘s judgment of individuals but consider them for yourself.
Palestine:
At this time [257] was close to the leader of the peoples who returned to the Holy City. Being on opposite sides with regards to you there was naturally a certain amount of antagonism. Yet this may be seen in the present as an urge which carries nothing of the personal element with it yet remains a matter of sides at times when some matter of action or principle arises. This might arise in a business manner very easily now and then.
United States:
At this time [257] was an aide to Lord Howe, the general with whom you were sent to parley over the situation in the colonies at this time. At this period [257] respected your varied abilities as Franklin and was probably interested in the manner in which you handled the negotiations. You possibly respected him for his position. There was, of course, a bit of natural feeling since you were on opposite sides.
In the present there would arise from this a respect in him for your abilities in many fields of endeavor, while there would naturally arise in you a respect for his abilities in a business manner, corresponding to position in this earlier period. The tinge of disagreement in a business way would arise from the feeling of being on opposite sides, race perhaps at the present.
You can be of a great deal of help to [257] through interesting him in values which are more stable than his eternal business. There is in him a strong urge to close friendships, love of race and people and spiritual attitudes at times. Use these later to show him a way to help himself through helping others. Help him to think more in terms of ideas and ideals rather than in phrases like this, his own: “Young man, measure your success by dollars and cents.”
[2694]
Egypt:
At this period [2694] was one who greatly assisted in bringing the priest back from banishment. As you favored and advised this step you were probably very close to him.
In the present there would come for him a natural respect for your abilities and power, and in you an understanding that he is one who can aid in smoothing and handling difficult little problems in which several persons are involved.
Edgar Cayce [294]
Egypt:
During this time Edgar was the high priest who was banished and whose breaking of the law as then set up brought about so much trouble and turmoil. When many were seeking to recall the priest from exile you were in favor of it. You were the one who chose the priest in the beginning and then the one to favor his return. There was a natural period of disagreement of the principle of the law but this did not assume personal relations. Naturally you worked well together.
In the present Edgar [294], admires and respects your ability in every line and naturally desires to see you become again a power in the work, the same work which we carried on then in Egypt. You recognize his ability as a teacher and one who can do much to help others. Only at times would there arise a difference of opinion over some definite matter but only when this comes through someone else and you and Edgar do not get together. You two should understand and carry on in fine style. Do not let his desire to see you in power again lead you to extremes.
An interesting point is that brought out in your letter to Edgar [294] a short time ago. In it you made a statement which he probably made some 12,000 years ago, when you asked him to become the high priest of Egypt, “I will work in that capacity if you desire it.” Carry on.
[288]
Egypt:
At this time [288] was the daughter of [294] and [538]. She possibly represented to you the result of breaking a given law. She lived to be only a small child.
This time let her not seem to be the cause of trouble but understand that she is rather in a position of the result of trouble. She is trying hard to work in a very difficult position. Your personal interest in her will help her greatly, simply general.
[136]
Egypt:
During this period the relation with this entity was probably very pleasant. [136] cared for [900] during his old age and also worked in the temple. There was possibly some slight feeling of antagonism because of [900]‘s feeling as a native. This was not great, however, as her greatest influence was during the later portion of the rule when cooperation was in full swing.
In the present there would come a natural respect on her part for your ability and power, perhaps a little fear of it at times. Her developments in other experiences make her one who should be interesting to you and easy to get along with.
Palestine:
There was no direct connection at this time.
[538]
Egypt:
In this period [538] was a dancer in the temple and a favorite of your son, [341]. Through her power over men she attracted the high priest, [294], and he took her as a second wife. This was against the law and the two were banished. She must have represented to you the cause of a great part of the trouble which immediately befell the country. The relation at first as the favorite may have been very pleasant and by your approving of the return of the priest you probably gained her favor.
In the present there would come a friendly reaction from her toward you while you will fail to understand just how she feels about situations at times. There would be no active antagonism.
[903]
Palestine:
This was the only time this entity contacted you. While she was on opposing sides there was no personal contact. The entity knew you as a name only, perhaps not even that well. She was among those who returned to the Holy City at the time you were one of the attackers.
The urge from this appearance would not be great in any direction. There might arise a bit of antagonism at times through some one else in a matter of a moment’s argument or perhaps there may be present in either or both of you some latent feeling of racial nature. This is suggested as only a possibility, certainly not necessarily a fact.
Mrs. [1381]
Egypt:
At this period Mrs. [1381] was the manager of your household, which must have been rather large at this time. She acted in the capacity of business manager and one on whom you depended in any matter relating to your general affairs. There are some interesting possibilities for connection in this appearance that one can tell little of from just the life reading.
The reactions in the present would be very strong. There would naturally exist a bond of dependence between you. She would be one to recognize and encourage your varied abilities and power. You would place some little dependence in her general business ability. Too, there might arise the possibility of a bit of strife here through her connection with the family life of yourself in Egypt.
[265]
Egypt:
In this time Mrs. [265] was your wife and the mother of at least your elder son, [341], her present grandson. At this period she caused quite a bit of trouble in the life of your son in her attempts to rule him. As the readings put it she was submerged. I hope not physically.
In the present there would of course be a natural attraction. This would undoubtedly be combined with a certain amount of disagreement as both of you desired to rule and in a manner do at the present. Too, strong minds brought together would be bound to clash, if they didn’t the world would cease to be interesting.
Dr. [5618]
Egypt:
At this time Dr. [5618] was in charge of the various institutions that were builded for the education of man, physically, mentally and spiritually. He did not side with any faction during the periods of strife and acted as a stable force among them. Your connection with him must have been of the best.
From this there comes the recognition of the ability one of the other. Each sees and knows the faults of the other much better than two average individuals who meet. Yet each considers the other to be a capable man. When you see one another’s faults so easily it is hard to keep from condemning them sometimes. You should be able to work well together but don’t try to drive or over-rule the man. Advise him, reason with him, but don’t try to run over him.
[760]
Egypt:
In this period Mrs. [760] was your daughter and naturally very close to you. She assisted in the decoration and equipping of the temples, schools and hospitals.
In the present you and she should work together very nicely. You will find her a person who thinks a great deal of you, one who is capable and is heart and soul in her work. You can be of great help to her through advice and personal interest. The opening is here for you to be of great assistance to; the active process of operation is very marked.
[849]
Egypt:
At this time [849] led a revolution against the young ruler, your son. You would naturally not feel particularly kindly toward him.
He has developed to be a capable and indeed a remarkable fellow and one who will be able to be of great help to the work. Too, like most of us, he needs the work. He has an artistic sense of imagination which you will like. Note his poetry and short stories. Use on him some of that great forbearance which you have when his ideas rile you.
[5453]
Egypt:
At this period Mr. [5453] was in the position of keeper of data and records just as he is today. Your connection with him at this time was probably close though not a personal relation.
In the present you can work nicely together. You will find him a reasonable, quite sensible person to deal with.

Benjamin Franklin’s Own Epitaph in His Own Hand
This copy of one of the most famous epitaphs in the English language was written out for Samuel Morris in Philadelphia and presented to him on August 31, 1776. Franklin, often termed “the first civilized American,” found at least a few brief moments to indulge his sense of humor and whimsey.
