This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 3rd day of January, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [2072], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [1861].

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, and that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In undertone “This isn’t the name!”) Yes, we have the records here of that entity now called [2072].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, these are chosen with the desire and purpose that this be a helpful experience for the entity.

4. Whether these records are considered from the influence exerted upon the emotional forces of the entity in the mental and spiritual, or the emotions from the material sojourns in the earth, they become rather unusual.

5. Thus we find the entity is rather a supersensitive individual; with very decided likes and dislikes, - that are often not expressed wholly or entirely, as to the feelings or emotions respecting influences which impel activity in the entity’s experience, owing to training, or to that the entity has set as its idea or ideal, or owing to circumstances.

6. Being of those groups of the Atlanteans, to be sure there are those forces brought to bear upon the entity so that it might be termed a true Uranian type.

7. Thus at times there is the experience of the extremes. While the desires for material activity may come under the extreme of physical emotion, the high spiritual import or intent may be hampered by the material environs and surroundings to such an extent as to cause at times much confusion.

8. And, under such experiences, any form of activity of a routine nature becomes drudgery to the entity.

9. As to the astrological aspects, - know that there is no emotion, no urge, that rises above the will force of the entity. Though astrological influences may often be very strong in the experience, the entity experiences - as indicated - that the emotions of either the high mental or the purely emotional from the physical have been and are subdued, because of those intents and purposes which rise above every other force within human experience.

10. From the astrological sojourns, then, we find Uranus as the greater force. Hence beauty, the interest in the occult and in things of mystery, - and in the influences that such may have upon the emotions of others, - the desire to seek out those influences which are latent within every form of material or mental nature.

11. These have been a part of the experience; yet home, home environs (almost the opposite), wields such a power upon the emotions of the entity that oft in its own self it has given suggestive forces to have a home, to be quiet, to rule not as a might or power but in love, in grace, in honor, in kindness, in gentleness, in patience. This to the entity becomes the great emotion, the great force and power in its experience; that this should be that impelling force that should rule and bring the abilities of the entity to the forefront in its activity, rather than any commercial field of activity, or any order of action.

12. For the entity in its social, associate life or activity may give a great deal of harmony in the experiences of others, and become gradually such a power in the lives of all its associates as to act as the leaven that leaveneth the whole lump.

13. In Venus we find the love emotion, and beauty, becoming that sought, - and those things dreamed of in the experiences of the entity; a bond of sympathy with every phase of expression that is of a mental or spiritual emotion or nature.

14. These have at times brought, and do bring, periods of quietude to such an extent that many consider the activities of the entity as almost a recluse, or as one having so little to say at times, - yet seeming so deep, and so “knowing” in its inner experiences of things, conditions and peoples and relationships!

15. These arise from the experiences of the entity not only in the material sojourns but also from the astrological aspects.

16. Few there be who are so tied up in emotions from both material sojourns and astrological sojourns.

17. As to the sojourns in the earth, - these - as may be indicated from the highly emotional nature - have been oft close together, and oft in periods of long extremes. Hence these have brought, do bring, those influences that may be applied as helpful or become stumbling-stones to the entity’s progress in material sojourns.

18. For, each sojourn is of a purposeful nature; not by chance, but that there may be the fulfilling of that purpose for which each soul enters into a material experience, - that is, to be a channel of blessings to others in the ways and manners that the soul may take hold upon eternal life, in those manners that have been exemplified through Him, - who is the way and the life in the earth, in the heavens, in all forces of same.

19. Before this, then, we find that the entity was of tender years when it passed from material sojourn, - in the western portion of that now known as Kentucky.

20. Thus we find there has been at times the innate desire to know of the frontiersmen, and the active life, and the associated influences of those peoples from that particular land. Yet these have been in a manner and in a way oft denied the entity, - though they have been a great influence.

21. Through those experiences the entity saw the extremes in the life and associations of its parents, and those things pertaining to the social orders, - yet of the natures that stood for, or proclaimed, the activities for the belief in directing the better forces in the lives of individuals and groups.

22. The name then was Anna Seay, and the entity gained - even though of tender years, for the period of sojourn was only twelve and two.

23. From that sojourn we find the love of home, the love of fireside, the love of music; the love of dress, and especially of plumes - that have a peculiar effect upon the entity when it beholds the activities of these in the air.

24. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the French, during those periods when there were the Crusades.

25. The entity then was among the mothers of the land who were left by their men, or the male members of the family.

26. This brought discouragements, material hardships; but the love of pomp as manifested in those who would dare to do the right for a cause became a part of the entity’s experience, as Marcelus Marrena.

27. In the experience the entity suffered materially, though accumulated material gains, - and knew of, and turned oft in the mind, in the developing forces of itself, those influences which direct men and peoples in their courses of progress in a material world.

28. Thus only the sheer necessities of material life, and the obligations to others, prevent the entity from becoming more of the aesthetic type, or the dreamer. Yet these are influences, as the entity experiences, that are the real life, the real impelling forces in the experiences of individuals and groups, - and oft such may direct the aims and activity of a whole country, nation, or the whole activity of many, many peoples.

29. Before that the entity was in the ‘city of the hills and the plains,’ during those experiences when many from many lands were a part of the activities in that city.

30. The entity, though, was among those peoples of the hills who were of those tribes of the leader’s group, or that leader of that particular group in the ‘city in the hills and the plains.’

31. Hence the entity became closely associated with the activities there, after the rebellions had been put down among those bedouin tribes, by the Persians rather than the followers of Uhjltd - the leader - in that particular experience.

32. The entity then became one who aided in the administration to the needs of the physical and spiritual, to those who might be termed wayfarers - at first; later, the entity was active in the hospitalization, or the caring for those who were ill or afflicted.

33. Thus the entity became a teacher, a home builder, an executive in those fields as related to same.

34. Hence language - whether the universal language as in music, or the universal interpretation as in etymology and the activities of same - becomes a part of the entity’s innate and manifested expression in material gain, and in the material world.

35. In that experience the entity was known as Esmeldara, and the entity gained; losing only in the periods of holding to the aversion to peoples of certain races or classes.

36. And this becomes innate, yet taking the opposite extremes at times in the very nature of the entity in the present.

37. Before that we find the entity was in the Atlantean land, during those periods when turmoils and strifes arose because of the activities of the sons of Belial.

38. For the entity then was among the princesses, being of the children of the Law of One, - and one through whom much of counsel and direction was obtained, through the very high spiritual development of the entity and the remaining true to the law of the children of One.

39. Hence we find the entity’s activities were to assist, to aid, and to build into the experiences of those who were as THINGS, rather than expressing as human activities in the experience, though they were in the form of - and acted in the capacity of - servants. The entity rendered much aid to such beings, and thus brought on disturbances, that caused then the attempts of the sons of Belial (who had been a part of the experience, and who were in love with the entity, materially) to undermine and bring about destructive forces in the entity’s experience.

40. In the present, then, we find that the entity is one of those that may indeed be said to be the consistent thinker and exponent of ALL FOR ONE, and ONE FOR ALL, in those things in which it has enjoined itself in active service.

41. These attitudes make for hardships at times in the material experience in the present.

42. But in those activities in which there may be the outlet for the greater home building, and the expression of same, may the entity find the greater field of service, the greater harmony, the greater outlook for peace and joy in the experience of this entity.

43. Ready for questions.

44. (Q) What possible latent expressions might help me to develop an expression for livelihood other than bookkeeping and clerical work? (A) It should be in that of home building; and thus an aid to, a director with the companion in those fields that bring more of the mystical activity - and yet spiritually so - in the experiences of those with whom the entity may be associated.

45. (Q) What relationship, in past lives, has existed between myself and that entity known as [1861], in this incarnation? What bond draws us so closely? (A) A daughter of [1861] in the experience before this. Thus there has been not only the association as the father, the mother, but the close feeling or attraction one for another in this expression, in this experience.

Also in the ‘city in the hills and the plains’ we find that they were associated as companions, or what would be called in the present husband and wife.

46. (Q) Why do I feel smothered in the business world? (A) Compare same with that as we have indicated, as to the emotional nature of the entity, and it will be seen.

BE the home, and IN the home; for the better expression.

Dear Miss [2072]

Just hope you found your reading most interesting and best of all just as helpful, as so many others tell us theirs have been and are to them. Are there any questions you would like to ask about same - please don’t hesitate to do so.

How far are you from Altadena - a very good friend of mine from N.Y. has recently gone there, one who has had considerable experience with the readings and knows this work very well - if at all possible would like for you to meet them if you would like, it was she that some weeks ago brought Mr. [1861] to Va. Beach to meet me. Let me know about this.

Don’t think have ever enjoyed so much making the acquaintance of any one as Mr. [1861], as a tiny child must have known him as an elderly man - is the reading correct, and my guesses true, so am expecting to see you both here at Va. Beach some time in the future.

Just heard from Mr. [1861] this morning - and have asked him to play for us next Summer at our Annual Congress - won’t you come also?

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Why you have gotten into my soul and heart and revealed almost all that is there! Yes, I am gratefully happy for your Reading.

It was perfect in character analysis; happily revealing in most unusual and interesting facts of past lives to Mr. [1861] and myself; and is a sacred and enlightening building block, with the three readings you will soon have given Mr. [1861] to our future.

I can hardly thank you enough.

You speak of Mrs. [1770] I believe. I have been hoping I might hear from her, as Mr. [1861] gave her my address and telephone numbers. Altadena is about 14 miles, I should say. I would like very much to meet her.

And I truly hope that I shall be able to accept the invitation to next Summer’s Annual Congress. I’m almost hopeful of many wonderful things happening in my life from now on.

Does my membership entitle me to any current publications from your Association? I would like a means of contact with the research and assistance you are doing and giving.

It is no doubt too late to ask you for dates of incarnations, but this is possible is it not?

Can you also explain to me what you meant in your answer by …“the mother”… when you spoke of association with the entity [1861]?

Would you say from knowledge through the reading that I might find a field of expression in clairvoyant research of the atomic elements? Annie Besant’s book on Occult Chemistry and Babbitt’s on Principles of Color and Light intrigue me, to hurting, that I cannot become absorbed in this type of research.

I do want a mental and spiritual reading in the future, if you think you could clarify this above obsessing “urge” for me. What is the cost of that Reading?

Dear Miss [2072]:-

Thank you for yours of the 10th - am so glad that you found your reading interesting - and am sure it will prove to be a real source of help. Don’t think I said half enough nice things about you to Mr. [1861] this morning when I wrote him. Oh was so happy to be of a bit of service - when his brother called other evening about him and he was so ill. Was quite uneasy even tho the information said what was given would relieve him. But so often have interferences from some who do not believe in the information - but he wrote he was much better am so glad for him. Am sure you will see his mental and spiritual reading - think it was very good and only trust it will be of a real help and joy to him - yes your questions would be better answered in a Mental and Spiritual reading.

Hope you have seen Mrs. [1770] before this, just had letter from her saying she was planning on calling on you, it was she that brought Mr. [1861] to Va. Beach, and will always thank her for it - but all think a great deal of her here. Possibly she can tell you what we are like.

Yes you will receive the publications from time to time - we publish ever so often a bulletin giving something of the work then special papers that are spoken of these too are sent to all that desire them, are not sent so promiscuous but those that wish them may have them for the asking.

Will surely expect you at the congress next Summer have asked Mr. [1861] to play something for us at that time - we have three four days meeting.

“The mother” evidently in some experience you were Mr. [1861]‘s mother - some one not given here - for of course all are not given but those that affect one in the present experience - would say you have a great deal to be worked out together - and am convinced it will be a most happy association.

Hope you will pardon me Miss [2072] but feel as if have known you for a long long time, and am looking forward to the time when will meet you here and now.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

In reply to your last so kind letter I want to thank you for many things. I am indeed grateful for the assistance you gave [1861] in his illness. He has been extremely susceptible to colds this winter - what with all the extremely cold weather you have had back there - and has found the prescription useful three or four times now.

[1861] and I have such high regard for you and your work that it is without a doubt that you cross our thoughts daily, and I am looking forward eagerly to meeting you - although I feel that I have ALREADY inwardly, soul to soul and heart to heart.

Mrs. [1770] and [1771] are lovely persons and we find ourselves drawn by interests in common. Have attended three concerts together, a lecture, and she very kindly left many of your bulletins and other books for me to read.

She stated that past issues of bulletins were available for ten cents each. I am enclosing coin for the September bulletin and wish you would choose from some of your past bulletins a few other issues you think I would like to read. Is a reading of your past lives available? Like you I feel I also have known you all my lives or at least in some of them. Have read the story of Uhjltd which Mrs. [1770] said was one of your past lives. What of your lives in the Christ Era and Atlantean Era? I am sincerely interested as I have believed in reincarnation since having first read of it and find it not at all hard to both believe and understand how you search out your information, to help others, with an almost divine love and sympathy. Strange and humbling, isn’t it, this vast plan and scheme of things we live in; and the wonder of our free will and beingness; how we meet and remeet and work again together!

Dear [2072]

Glad to have yours of the 10th - sending the Bulletins under separate cover, hope you find them interesting and helpful.

This winter has been a very hard winter on many of us - we had a real siege of the Flu here, three of us, the secy, my wife and I were all down at once with it, the Secy, has lived with us for the past 17 years.

Was very happy to be the means of being of help to [1861], am very fond of him and feel sure must have known him before, think will have quite an interesting story to tell you about all this when see you. Then you will know why you and [1861] feel so close to me.

Am sure you have enjoyed knowing Mrs. [1770] and [1771], they are very lovely people, we all think the world of them, and am sure you have been pleased to be with them a bit.

No - there has not been a compilation of my past lives as yet, have them separate, the Egyptian and then as Uhjltd are the most interesting - unless it is the Palestine experience

• as Lucius - but only have these singly, have never been compiled.

Is lovely that you appreciate the responsibility there is in giving such information, once certainly feels humble, yet appreciative, and glad to be counted worthy of being a channel of help to some one. Had rather interesting experience a few weeks ago. Had given reading for a Priest - also for a Rabbi quite far apart - the readings - but they chose to reply at almost the same time - tho one lives in Montreal Ca. the other in N.Y. City, yet each used the identical same words to describe their feelings in the matter they said, “One realizes when reading the message from you, God again speaks to man through man” quite interesting isn’t it - when we consider how far apart we ordinarily feel these are in religious thought - yet with such expressions one finds they are not apart at all in their deeper thought.

Enclosing a partial list of publications - this phase of the work has been sadly neglected thus far, we hope to be more up to date with same this year.

I have been most interested in the two readings you have recently given Mr. [1861] a reading diagnosing his eye condition and a recent life reading.

The intelligence, helpfulness, and accuracy of these readings have impressed me so very deeply I should like to obtain my life reading.

Would you, by return airmail, give me full information as to procedure and cost for a Life Reading and a Spiritual and Mental Reading.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Thank you for your so early attention. The time you have set, December 27th, 10:30 to 11:30 E.S.T. (7:30 to 8:30 P.S.T.), is very satisfactory to me, and at that time I shall give you my utmost in co-operation, by quiet meditation while lying upon my bed in my room.

I feel that the Reading will, in itself, give me the knowledge I am seeking and I would rather appreciate emphasis upon that rather than upon questions. But for one thing:

1. I would like you to search my life and past lives for some possible latent expressions that might help me to develop an expression for livelihood other than bookkeeping and clerical work. I feel there is something more in me, that tends more toward the occult. I feel smothered in the business world.
