GC: You will have before you the psychic work of Edgar Cayce, all members of his family, and those directly associated with the work. Please tell me the progress that has been made with the work, if any, and what is the best way to handle this work at the present, and especially in regard the contemplated trip at this time to Florida. You will answer the questions that will be asked regarding this.
-
EC: Yes, we have the work and the various phases of same here. This we have had before.
-
Progress - there can be no progress. There can only be the knowledge of same and progress towards interesting others in same, for their own good and their own welfare, for in truth the work, the phenomenon, IS truth, and truth shall make one free. To be free indeed, then, is to gain that knowledge as is necessary to loose these bonds that bind one, whether of mental, physical, or of spiritual disabilities. The progress, then, in such dissemination, has and is in its own progress - for, as has been given, first individual, then as groups, as classes, as masses. In the first, this may possibly be misunderstood. Individual is as the work or application alone, and is of necessity the basis of all truth, for no individual or entity accepts as truth any truth save as that truth relates to its, the entity’s, individual needs - or supposed needs - depending upon, then, the learning or the ABILITY of applying same in self’s own interest; and the groups meaning the various phases of those elements necessary to bring the truth of phases necessary for development of individuals, groups, classes, masses, nations. As is seen, that necessary for the writer, for the astrologer, for the astronomer, for the physician, for the druggist, for the farmer, for the merchant, for ANY phase of human endeavor, is as class illustration of truth. That as the various phases of the phenomena developed shows progress. The work itself is an element that may leaven a great heap. As to how same shall be handled for the better success of same, in the way as is here outlined, and as has ever been given, to the individual needs apply the truth obtained. Through same the greater truths are seen and are capable of being applied.
-
As in application to the various conditions as have been contemplated, and as are being contemplated, progress in those directions is being and has been made. Continue to acquaint each one that has in any manner been directly or indirectly interested in the truths as may be gained and applied in the individual lives - made known to those, then, as has been outlined - in pamphlet, in letter, and continue to do so.
-
As regarding contemplated visit to Florida, as has been given, this would be well, properly handled or properly conducted - for “Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.”
-
As for those associated with same, directly and indirectly, each gain their own concept, and each apply that as is applicable in their individual needs according to that intent as is set within self.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would it be well to make this trip? (A) As given. Well to make such a trip. But there are many conditions regarding same as must be considered, as has been given, in that each member, each individual association with same, direct - their position, their condition, should be considered - for, as has been given, let thine heart be in true accord with that oneness of purpose - which is consistency.
-
(Q) It is desired by [2671] & [943] of Miami that the readings be used in attempting to locate treasure buried. Is it well that such readings be given at this time? [See [996] series, etc.] (A) These may be given when such conditions present themselves in a manner that is in keeping with the intent and purpose of truth, of law, of order, of conditions as relate to man’s correct relations, one with another.
As for buried treasure that belongs to individuals, to individuals they must be given. As for that that belongs to the finder - then locate and find same! This may be done!
-
(Q) Is it well that such readings be given at all? (A) Only when given when circumstances and conditions connected with same are above reproach, or that does not bring condemnation upon any - for, as was seen, it was naught to raise the wedge that was sunken, yet who would have such forces applied to all sunken weight? Or, as was given, there were many widows and orphans in the day of the famine, but was the prophet sent to naught but that one to whom even the life of the child was given? See? The intent and purpose, then, of all connected with same must be accord with the truth, or naught comes of same.
-
(Q) In the light of information already given regarding the visit to Florida, how should this be conducted or handled? (A) In the manner and way as is in keeping with the truths as have been presented from time to time, as that in accord with the forces, source, or the work or phenomena itself. That is, acquaint those associated in the undertakings, from which the information may furnish means for various elements or conditions in life, and when each and every associate is in accord with that - then in THAT way and manner conduct such, see?
The intent, the purpose, is to serve, rather than to gratify own personal intent or gain - for, as has been given, there are three things that are abominable in the eyes of that Creative Force FROM WHICH all good emanates: Pride of the eye, pride of the heart, and the deceitfulness of the lust of the flesh.
-
(Q) What time would be best to make this trip to Florida? (A) When the house is set in order. That is, when those conditions necessary are in shape for those for whom information may be given that will prove beneficial in their lives. This would be about 25th, 26th, 28th, of January, or first of February, see?
-
(Q) Any further advice to those members of the family or those associated with the work? (A) Keep thyself in that way and MANNER as is acceptable to Him, the Giver of all good and perfect gifts - and keep thyself from idols.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 1/20/27 EC’s ltr. to HLC at W & L University:
Dear Hugh Lynn:
Just a little note to let you hear from us, though I have nothing new or exciting to write about, and I’m sure you’re too busy to be bothered much with long letters - but I presume you like to know that we think of you once in a while and are hoping that you get along alright, that you’ll make the grade with your examinations and won’t have too much trouble with them.
As yet I haven’t heard anything from Morton [with a check] consequently I haven’t been able to send you that little slip, nor able to attend to a lot of other things around here that I’d like - but it’ll all come along in good time, I am sure, and I hope everything will work out alright.
I’m mighty glad to say I’m feeling a lot better than I have been for a good long while, physically. The weather has turned off warm and real pretty, and of course I commenced piddling around and digging around outside. I don’t know what I’d have the back yard looking like if they’d give me enough time. I hope it won’t look too much like a mare’s nest. The chickens are doing pretty well, though several of them look like they’ve got the ‘pip’ or something worse; I don’t know what. I guess it’ll be the survival of the fittest - perhaps I just have too many in such a small place
- it’s kind of like our flowers were last summer - some of them naturally choked the rest of them to death.
No word from the people in Florida as yet. Guess we will hear in the next few days. Tim writes that he has finished up his story but hasn’t been able to end it up like he wants to - has written four or five endings - will try to cull the best and then bring it down and let us see it. Shouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t here sometime next week.
Mr. Wyrick is still very enthusiastic about the well. They are making progress slowly, as they are still having to use the acid to eat out the obstructions in the bottom of the hole. This lets them make about four to six feet in a month. I believe they’ve got two more doses to give it before they get through, according to the reading.
Morton wrote us a very nice letter about his idea of the reading we had on the Florida proposition. He thinks it’s the right thing to go - the only thing he seems fearful of is that our stay might be prolonged.
Dave has gotten two or three more people interested, so he says. One of them we are to take a reading on pretty soon
- I don’t know, he may be like the doctor - we haven’t heard any more from him since the reading we had on him. As they express it in Texas, I guess he’s ‘blowed up’.
Mother [GC] says tell you she’s baking a cake, so you may be on the look-out for it in the next day or two - in fact, I think she’s going to try to get it off so it’ll go out this afternoon or tomorrow.
Eckin [EEC] is getting along pretty well, I think. Still has trouble with getting his leg to go off every time he starts to use it, which makes him limp right badly at times. I guess that’ll work out alright, though, after a while.
Miss Gladys has had a right bad cold - lot of trouble with her throat and tonsils. Had her hair all curled up - I don’t know whether that curled up her tonsils or not, but she got a permanent a few days ago. We all went to the show that day
- pretty good show - went to Keith’s and saw “The Egyptian”
- he’s certainly a wonder. The picture was Milton Sills in “Unspoken Love” I believe, or some such name - desert picture. I got my suit - I like it alright, except the vest
- they never did get that to suit me, but I think I’ll have them to fix it over when I get the opportunity - either make it to fit or make a new one. They left long points on it that I don’t like at all. The coat and trousers, though, look pretty good - I think at least, and it’s a little bit different from anything I’ve had in a long time.
I know you are busy, but let us hear whenever you have time. Take care of yourself. Love from all.
Dad
P.S. from GD: You should see my curls, Hugh Lynn! I’m crazy about them! “Muddie” [GC] has an appointment to get her permanent next Wed.

R5. 5/2/27 EC’s letter to HLC (at W & L) re. making application for charter of ANI, setting up by-laws, etc.:
Dear Hugh Lynn:-
I feel really ashamed of myself for not having written you before this, but there has been so little happening here about that I haven’t known anything to write. Consequently, haven’t said anything, for I didn’t have anything to say.
As you know, we were making preparations to file the application for charter. Crocker [the lawyer] was here Saturday after you left on Friday. As soon as we have the opportunity I’ll have Miss Gladys to make copies of the application and bylaws as are suggested for our first meeting, and send a copy to you, as you are one of the trustees. I haven’t said anything more to Van Patten or any of the boys at the office about a place, for I have come to the conclusion that neither of the three places that had been suggested would be at all suitable. It would be too cramped quarters for any place that we would go ahead to prepare to suit the institutional work - would almost mean we would have to buy it if we succeeded, and I am not inclined to believe that either of the three places suggested would increase in value sufficient to be worth while for the institute to buy as an investment, so I am merely waiting until I know what the answer is on the application, and, too, things didn’t turn out with Morton’s venture as he had anticipated - so it may hold him up for a little while yet, though it seems like quite a number of the others are quite anxious. Tim wrote me a mighty nice letter about what he thought about it, though he said he was financially in bad shape, as oats had caught him about ten or fifteen thousand dollars - but now that he had taken his loss he would grin and bear it - and go ahead and think about something else, and would be ready to help out some in a month or such matter. So we may not be able to have our organization meeting until June or July. Possibly it would be best to have it when there’s so many of those people down here from New York, if they really come. Crocker didn’t seem to think there was any doubt about it going through, but its the first application of the kind that has ever been filed in any state in the union, so we’re making history if we don’t do anything else - and possibly will set a precedent. Our charter, if granted, allows us to do most anything except build railroads, and operate steamship lines
- though it mentions the readings specifically - but merely calls them readings - doesn’t say kind, character, nor qualify them in any way - but sets forth, of course, that it is psychic research association - and while there have been and are psychic associations, there have none as yet been organized that have asked to be allowed to do the things that are allowed in this charter.
Well, most of our flowers we planted have come up, but the UP was principally done by the chickens I think - though I think there are considerable zinnias that are coming along alright. Possibly the others will in time if the chickens did not get them.
Well, I don’t think there is anything else of particular interest I know. Sunday School class seems to be getting along fairly well. Don’t have the same ones all the time, but once in a while a new one drops in to see what is like from the comment that seems to be created, and if I can get enough of them to be regular attendants to make an organized class, I’m in hopes I can get some of them to see that they have something to do as well as I - but I’m to branch out a little bit Wednesday night. They asked me to lead the prayer meeting, which is unusual.
Well, let us hear from you whenever you can. I guess this is the second day of the last month up there for this term. I put the suit in the box and Mother mailed it this afternoon. You’ll possibly get it before the letter. Sorry I didn’t have something to put in it, but nothing at hand just at present.
With best love from all,
