This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 26th day of March, 1928, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [270].

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, as are latent and exhibited in the present entity.

2. In entering the earth’s plane in the present experience we find the entity coming under the influence of Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and of Uranus.

3. In the astrological aspects, then, we find these above the ordinary; for in the various phases as have been and are presented in the astrological chart, or astrological conditions, this entity should be in places of power, position, wealth, and of one guiding the lives of many. Hence we find there are other influences entering the outcome or the life, other than those of purely astrological conditions.

4. Then the urge as is seen through the experiences of the entity in the earth plane, in respect to urges as seen from an astrological condition and the various spheres of indwelling that the entity has attained through the experiences, brings conditions that NEARLY approach many of these, that fail through the application of will in various planes or experiences as related to earth’s experiences - see? Well that these conditions were properly understood, that the various individuals who may have proper access to what the varied experiences of an entity mean, as to how one may then apply self in earth’s experience to the BETTERMENT of the individual towards its development.

5. Let it be understood, however, that one that would be greatest among men, or man, will be the servant of most men. Not in that idea as is ordinarily meant, as of servitude, but of SERVICE to most individuals, and not in place of high position, either as of one considered social, or financial, or of material worldly goods as the criterion for the judgement of success of an individual. Rather let it be understood that these places, these positions, are as the outgrowth either of that merited, or of that plane chosen through which one tempts or tempers self as to one’s ability to become the servant, or to render service to fellow man, thus fulfilling the whole law of what, and for man’s, indwelling in earth consists.

6. As in respect then to this entity [270], in entering we find the entity coming under those influences first in Mercury, which gives the ability to reason well as appertains to the material conditions of life. Under the influence of Jupiter, one who holds the higher ennobling things of life (materially speaking) in high esteem. As to the ability to coordinate ennobling conditions of wealth and position with that of the purely mental, not wholly in accord - as we shall see why.

7. As to that influence in Venus, we find this rather the controlling influence - that of love; for, as seen, the body - the entity - may be governed, may be controlled, may be persuaded even to self’s UNDOING, in manners, by and through love; yet may never be driven by force, whether of mental or of power; for UNDER such the entity finds same irksome, and the desire of REBELLION comes within the being of the entity, and especially so in the influence of Uranus, which brings high ennobling, good, in the body, yet when others appear not to consider same, then the opposite may be that which the entity seeks to carry out in action. Hence, we find one, without respect of will, that finds many irregular, many absorbing conditions, that apparently are contrary-wise; whether in friendships, whether in business, whether in social relations or in home, that keep - apparently - the whole of self AT TIMES in turmoil. There IS a reason for such - for nothing comes by chance, and that of cause and effect is unalterable. Seek the cause. Make the correction. Prepare the builder - which is IN the mental, and the application of will as respecting same, and the spirit of that which is impelling throughout life, as it projects itself through the various phases of experience, will bring in the BODILY - whether mental, physical or material - the results that are in keeping with the expenditure of that given.

8. In the entity’s application of will in the present, we find these have varied at times, and the present earthly sojourn has NOT been entirely devoid of troubles, cares, worries; yet neither has it been void of those conditions that were satisfying, impelling ease of mind, bringing of joys - and would the entity analyze those conditions in the life there would come the better understanding of why such conditions arise in the life, and in the varied experiences of the life; for these are unalterable conditions in EVERY life: With what measure ye mete it shall be measured to you again. Be sure you SIN will find you out, and that which one counts to self as SIN is hiding that which to self’s own mind, own intellectuality, is not in accord with physical, moral or spiritual law. But remember, love is law, and law is love, and with the measure that same is meted the same is meted to self. Through every channel does this law hold good, whether of the mental, the spiritual, or the physical being of man.

9. As to likes and dislikes as are created through these environmental conditions through which the entity passes, as to application of mental forces in relationship to same:

10. Ever the entity is attracted to the GOODNESS in every element, whether it pertains to physical condition, moral law, or to spiritual being.

11. In the physical things, a beautifully kept account is as beautiful as a picture or statuary. Hence the mental is directed in those channels that have particularly to do with the detail in reports of individuals’ application of self towards any GIVEN line of endeavor.

12. In those pertaining to the physical things of earth, the beautiful in the outdoors is particularly inviting and interesting to the entity. And the ease of body or mind is ever pictured as of Elysian fields where rest and comfort may be taken under the shade of inviting trees, with fruits of the land and the waters of the spring gathered about the entity for the PLEASURE of material body. Not bad! yet not wholly good in its application; for, as seen, the self’s own aggrandizement is the BESETTING SIN of the entity in its application of laws pertaining to every phase of life.

13. First, then, understand self and self’s relation, and do not stumble over self so often!

The entity then among those who came as the first settlers to that land to escape persecutions of the religious fervor as builded and felt in self. The entity came with those who settled in that land, and in the name Chalk, and the entity gained and lost, gained and lost, through that experience; for with the building of antagonism toward those not seeing, believing, with the entity, there naturally was builded persecutions for those not BELIEVING as the entity saw the moral code, or religious code, should be governed. In gaining, the entity served others, in the capacity of director of the buildings about the settlement, and in the record of the courts, or the foundations of the laws in the new land. In the urge as was seen, and is seen, from that experience - the entity finds all law as hindrance rather than as an aid; yet innately there is felt the necessity of law (penal), but that same is not correctly administered, nor correctly applied - either as individuals or as groups.

16. In the one before this we find in that land known as Grecian. The entity then among those who followed in the ruling of the land after Xenophon left off in the besetting of the people with the new ideals. The entity among those that set up that criterion of the physical being, and of the worship - in a manner - of abilities in the field of physical prowess, in the beauty of form, in figure, and in the abilities of the body to perform certain functions in the direction of games of every nature. These are particularly interesting to the entity, AND the entity would have made a good ideal body in that of the director in gymnasium or in any of the games and sports as receive direction from individuals trained in that line. Yet while innately the entity finds these appealing, never finds self exactly associated with same, but the knowledge that laws exist concerning every game is EASILY understood and gained by the entity when self is applied to the understanding of same. In the name XENXIA. The entity gained through this experience in being able to serve, through the gaining of physical health and of the application to the moral law as pertains to physical conditions of body; yet LOST in making this rather the selfish, or worshipfulness, than that that gives the power from within.

17. In the one before this we find in that land when the division arose in the land now known as Egypt. The entity then among those who were finally chosen to supervise the educational forces of the period, especially as pertaining to the records kept in the physical application of physical conditions, and the spiritual applications through the religious rites of the temple’s set-up. Hence the entity found much dissension through the office imposed on same; for with those that were the counsellors of the ruler, found the entity disfavor with these, as the entity also found disfavor with the attendants in the various temples; for the entity came to be known as the SPY, or the telltale, for either the king, the priest, or the one in charge of the school and the temple. The entity then in the name DIEUL. The entity served man well through this period, yet not finding favor with many, save with the priest (deposed), king - after there was the reestablishing of the better worship as accomplished through this period. In the urge is seen that of the ever fear of being misunderstood for the things, conditions - whether of MENTAL or physical applying of self to varied conditions.

18. In the one before this we find in that period when the Atlantean peoples were near the turning of the higher civilized forces as apply to the application of physical and material elements to the use of man. The entity then the one that was first able to GENERATE that power since known as the latent force in applied physical beings, or electronic energy as later called. The entity then one in power, position, and gained much in this experience, being able to serve through service given. In the urge as seen, the love of position and power, and innately the love of those of INSTRUMENTS that would serve mankind.

19. In the abilities of the entity - these, we find, vary; but particularly in that line wherein the entity may govern those that keep, direct, various phases of endeavor, and the entity acts rather as the clearing house for the endeavors of various groups, in keeping such tabulated truths, the entity will find the greatest success - whether of physical, material, or spiritual truths - but well that the entity find self first in those conditions as have been pointed out in correction of ideals. Ready for questions.

20. (Q) What business or industry is the body best fitted to pursue, and thereby acquire the worldly things in life - with consideration to the present employer and my 20 odd years of service therewith, or would it be best to change business, location, or both? (A) Best to serve in the present business and location for the present, for while there is seen slow progress in advancement in the material sense, yet the ability to serve and the abilities of the entity do not pass unrespected in the present conditions, and will soon - sooner even than would be contemplated by the entity - bring about advancements that will be more than satisfactory, coming particularly to those lands where the entity first served in this present plane.

21. (Q) Just what is my present status? that is - (A) As given. We are through for the present.

R1. 3/27/28 EC’s letter: “Much of the information I am sure you will be able to check for yourself without any trouble… You may have to read it several times to understand the phraseology, but its meaning is possibly quite clear.

“Now, as to the association in Egypt, you will possibly need some light on the positions and places occupied by individuals at that period who are now interested in the developing of the institutional work, and you no doubt will be able to see just how and where you fit in with the present condition.

“In the first place, Mr. [165] was the king who came in from the north, subdued the people and set up what might be termed in common parlance ‘An idealist’s kingdom.’ As his son was inclined in the same direction, he at an early age was put in power. This was [341]. The young man began to establish what was possibly the first idea of religious worship, also to draw up code of laws governing religious worship, also as to relationship of man to man. Mr. [953] was his chief counsellor. Mr. [900] was a native, but as one of the chief writers of the day. Mr. [195] was one of the builders, and an advisor to the counsellor, the king, the priest (who was myself), and also the scribe. There are many others who come in, in various places. As the one in charge of the educational end - which included, apparently, at that period, the study of the physical body, as respecting the ills of same and manners of curing. You, as you see, were the information gatherer for the king, the priest, and the man head of the schools. Consequently you were in disfavor with some of the counsellors, and with many of the attendants about the temple, about the king and the whole court. Now you see how it all fits in. Your special factor at this time, as I would see, will still be the assistant, directly, to those individuals - in fact we see it’s the same thing today.”

R2. 3/30/28 Mr. [270] wrote: “To say that I am still in a maze is true, although some parts of it are very apparent. I will of course need some advice on part of it, especially that relating to stumbling or finding one’s self [See 270-15, Par. 15]. That I feel can be covered in a separate discussion or possibly a reading.”

It obviously seems relative, especially in the book MANY MANSIONS by Gina Cerminara.”

The striking thing in the Edgar Cayce Readings about Karma is his analysis of minute details related to an individual’s present life as pictured from urges of past experiences. As I understand the readings, not only talents, abilities, capacities are explained, but also weaknesses and faults of individuals as being related to urges from past lives. As Gina has developed this in MANY MANSIONS, there are a variety of types of karma, of course. Broadly speaking, we might say there is what is called “physical karma”. These are problems of the body resulting not only from what we have done to our own bodies in past experiences, but what we might have done to other people.

Then, there are various kinds of psychological karma, prejudice, fear, hate, all of these negative attitudes build karma which apparently may be delayed for several lives then we come face to face with ourselves. Obviously, the most important kinds of karma may relate to our relationships with other people. We meet individuals life after life in many various ways, until we learn how to build a better relationship, or, we might put it another way - until we learn how to love other people.
