This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of January, 1938, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [601], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Detroit, Michigan. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [601].
-
Now as we find, owing to some unusual activity and strain on the body, with some cold and damp feet, there has been a recurrent disturbance with the eliminating system as related to the glandular forces with the menopause system. [GD’s note: She died 4/20/38 with cancer of womb.]
-
Hence we find the concurrence of the headaches, the mental depressions, the backaches, the flow or flooding of the system, all become again a part of the condition.
-
As we find, first:
-
The body should keep rather quiet, but with as much general mental activity surrounding same of an optimistic nature as possible.
-
Also keep the feet dry, warm.
-
Take, even with the conditions, a GENTLE - not hot but body-temperature - douche with a little Atomidine in same, to prevent clotting, irritation, and to reduce the plethora produced in the pelvic system. The proportions would be about a teaspoonful of Atomidine to a quart and a half of water. Use a Fountain Syringe and not a force pump or the pressure nature, or force pressure. These may be used once a day or every other day should be sufficient; or two days, and then skip a day, and then every other day after that.
-
Across the small of the back and across the kidneys we would massage with an equal combination of Mutton Suet, Turpentine and Camphor; covering the area with a warm flannel also soaked in same or with the combination rubbed on same; or a gentle heat put over same - preferably salt heat - coarse salt heated.
-
Also at least every other day have a good gentle manipulation with the whole of the disturbance considered in same.
-
Keep rather a diet of the easily digested foods. Liquids and semi-liquids are preferable, but of course sufficient of those foods of every nature to sustain the strength and stability of the body.
-
Internally we would take small doses of Tonicine; about a teaspoonful in half a glass of water once a day, preferably of an evening. Take about three doses, leave off for three to four days.
-
This with the general treatment should make for the recuperative forces in the body.
-
Then, during those lapse periods, be active in the open but not those activities of a strenuous nature.
-
Keep the mind and HANDS busy, but with crowds and groups rather than alone.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should vaginal violet ray be used at this time? (A) Not at this time. This may be used later, but not in the present.
-
(Q) What about frequent urination? (A) These effects all come from the same disturbance.
-
(Q) Any other medication needed? (A) Not as we find in the present. If the headaches are of too great a strain, or irritation, do not resort to the narcotics or sedatives but rather have a head and neck and shoulder massage.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. GD’s note: Dream of EC during rdg [601-23]: “I dreamed - or rather heard someone discussing or lecturing on sex; saying that there is positive proof - not only once but in hundreds of cases where sex has changed, even when the individuals had gotten to be as old as twenty-three (23) years of age - changed both ways - that the determining of sex is purely a mental thing and not a physical thing. The physical is merely the expression of a mental condition. This was only a part of the discussion - but it was all I heard.”
R2. 1/26/38 “Thanks for the rdg. and if I disturbed your Sun. afternoon I hope you will forgive me. I have had this backache on and off for several weeks, in fact even while I was at Miami Beach and hoped a few osteopathic treatments by Dr. John R. Thompson would help me, but evidently the change of weather and climate and my own change did not combine very well, and was quite miserable last week. I am following the suggestions and the pain has eased quite a bit and hope the Tonicine will help the condition for the menopause.
“I sincerely hope you are feeling better. The diet seems to be the greatest source of trouble and yet the hardest to follow through.
“Mrs. [1100] called here last evening from … They are both well but not very keen about living there. We were happy to hear from them.
“The rdg. was absolutely correct about the mental depression. I have been rather low and haven’t had any desire to be with people.
“[619] has been feeling fine but a little worried about conditions. No business and had a very poor market in Chicago.” [Her beloved only daughter [480]‘s baby was born dead - see 7/8/37 ltr. under 480-37 Reports.]
R3. 2/6/38 See 601-24; also see subsequent rdgs. 601-25 through 601-31.
R4. 4/20/38 She died from cancer of the womb.
