This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of Mr. David E. Kahn, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 25th day of November, 1940, in accordance with request made by Dr. [2246], Mrs. [2174] and Mr. [2091].

Time of Reading 4:45 to 4:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time.

1. HLC: You will have before you the entities, the enquiring minds of Mrs. [2174], Mr. [2091], and Dr. [2246] present in this room, who are confronted with the situation which has arisen relative to the oil well which was drilled on the Carmerson Plantation, midway between Big Sandy in Upshur County and Winona in Smith County, according to information given through this channel. You will give at this time any information and explanation which will be helpful to them; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the problems and the conditions as confront these entities, regarding operations in search for oil on Carmerson Corporation holdings. These we have had before.

3. As we find, there is production of oil - and gas - on these holdings.

4. The properties in the present we would hold, sufficient that as productions are brought in closer to the holdings there may be the disposal of portions of same and still have sufficient for operating themselves, if it is so desired.

5. As to manners and means of increasing interest in the holdings, little materially - as we find - may be accomplished in the present - other than remaining in that attitude of mind that this will prove eventually to be of such value as to be worthy of considering such in the present.

6. As to information respecting the unusual natures in the cuttings in a portion of the present hole, - this as we find has values as a constructive element in the preparation of metals. It has destructive values in the preparation of explosives that might become a force to be reckoned with, if it is necessary under extreme circumstance.

7. Ready for questions.

8. (Q) What should be done now with this special coring, from 3838 from the present hole? (A) Have same tested for these two values indicated, and then determine as to which would be the better proposition.

9. (Q) How should it be tested, and what should it be tested for? (A) As just indicated, in its value as a cohesive agent in preparation of metals, and as to its value in the preparation of destructive materials.

10. (Q) Who could do this testing? (A) One capable of doing so!

11. (Q) Can information be given at this time regarding the seeming inaccuracies in previous information regarding the production in the present hole? Please explain as fully as possible. (A) As has been indicated, there is production here, even in the hole drilled; and there needs be only the waiting for those developments to prove same.

R1. 1/14/41 Mr. [2091]‘s letter: “I don’t know whether you have heard from Dr. [2246] or Mrs. [2174], but there has been a good deal of excitement down our way in Texas since we last met. A man drilled a hole about four and a half miles northwest of us and got a wonderful well at the shallow level. Quite close to this well in our direction there is a dry hole, so the development is not likely to come straight towards us. But several wells are projected in a southerly and in an easterly direction from the discovery. This will bring the testing north of our north boundary and west of us. Maybe we shall be approached from these two directions. At any rate there is a great boom on and people have gone wild by newspaper accounts. [2246] is, of course, in California. The development is in a little town called Hawkins, about six miles WEST of Big Sandy.”

R3. 10/21/41 [2091]‘s ltr. to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

You may be surprised to hear that I have been spending the last several weeks with [2246] and […] at the plantation where we were often reminded of your own visit there and spoke of it. We are having the darndest time with the people who say they want to drill for us if Mrs. Hastings will ratify her lease to us which, as you may have heard, she refuses to do. We have tried our best, so far without success, to drill on neighboring land and leave the ownership of the Hastings tract to be decided by the courts. I don’t know what will happen, but neither Mrs. Hastings nor the Carmerson Company can do anything while the title is in dispute. The drillers want to move southwest of the old well, as far as I can make out, instead of northeast as the readings indicated, but they would be trying for the oil at the deeper level of 8,000 feet.

I am terribly sorry that I never wrote to thank you for the very pleasant time I had at your conference this summer. I had intended to do so, but having turned farmer, I did very little writing and desk work, which didn’t seem to mix with hand labor. Now I am back in New York for the winter. I received the announcement of Hugh Lynn’s marriage on my return and send him my best regards and congratulations.

The world still seems to be sliding down a deep slope and it looks as if next month would see us officially involved. Have you had any new Readings on world affairs? Please give my kindest regards to Mrs. Cayce. When are you next coming to New York? Yours very sincerely, [2091]

R4. 10/23/41 EC’s letter to [2091]:

Dear Mr. [2091]

“Very glad to have yours of the 21st - have been wondering what was going on in Texas, relative to operations, haven’t heard anything since saw Mrs. [2174] here in the summer. Knew of course of the trouble with one of the leases think it must have been in one of the early readings for you, there was something said about trouble with a lease, wasn’t there?

“Do hope that can be straightened out - am a bit surprised that it is Mrs. Hastings that is holding the operations up, and from what I can understand tho there may be a legal battle she has very little to stand on. But hope it all works out without any hard feelings - know tho Dr. [2246] must be very much put out. How is he and […], heard from them Oh a month or more ago, but nothing lately.

“O I know a man like yourself has much to look after during the summer months with a farm especially, how is everything at the farm? Did H. L. write you and thank you for the books, hope he did but if he didn’t please accept my thanks now, are doing very well with the Library, not a lot of books as yet, but quite a number have been contributed from various ones, so if you run across anyone that would like to have a remembrance here - tell them to send a book. Anything along this line of work will be fine.

“Have had quite a stir round here of late - H. L.’s wedding, but he is married and had their trip and are back at the Beach, H. L. has begun to keep regular office hours again, married a very lovely girl and I think a good balance for him.

“Mr. Sugrue has gone to Fla. for the winter - he finished the book before he left - it is in the hands of the publisher now

• Henry Holt and Co. Don’t know just when it will come out, but very soon now I believe. H. L. I believe is to see the publishers, regarding a Pre-edition possibly for Christmas when we come to N.Y. next month some time - hasn’t be decided just yet. Are keeping fairly busy - and having wonderful reports from people everywhere.

“Yes - the world seems gone to pot, haven’t undertaken any thing on world affairs of late. Almost seems to me a case of where what you don’t know hurts less than what you do know.

“An all out war seem unable to be avoided, so many predictions seem to me to have been upset, one wonders - who is who and what is what.

“Thanks for letting us hear from you. Hope to see you when we come up next month - of course will let you know. Please remember me to all at the farm that would care to hear.
