This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of September, 1942, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. Geo. L. Marquess, thru Mrs. [2174], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 12:40 to 12:50 Noon - Eastern War Time. Kilgore, Texas.

1. GC: You will have before you the enquiring mind of Geo. L. Marquess of Kilgore, Texas, and his prospective operations on the Carmerson Oil Corp. holdings, or vicinity. Please give special consideration to area adjacent to the Starnes property, East, embracing 500 acres good land, identical surface exposure, cap rock continuation. Should Marquess take adjacent acreage or property?

2. EC: Yes.

3. As we find, there is to the east of the properties indicated as a good location, a high hill. This has a great deal of the same outcroppings as seen farther west. Any portion of this would be well, for it is a continuation of the same.

4. But toward the creek that lies north and northeast from same there is a greater depth, or the rising of the land and a pinching out even to the upper sands. But that which lies to the east and to the south would be good, or a part of the old holdings of L. Starnes.

5. Yes, we would obtain these acreages.

6. We are through for the present.

R9. 6/20/43 [2091]‘s ltr. to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I am wondering how the travel restrictions affected your Summer Conference this year. We talked of you a long time the other evening when some of the friends who were here when you last visited the farm were with us. But maybe the success of the book about you has been so great that many people came to your conference in spite of many difficulties. I only saw the reviews in the leading New York papers, of which you doubtless had as many copies as you wanted. I thought they treated the book very well, considering the subject and the fact that the materialist frame of mind is fearful of anything pointing to the spiritual background of the world.

I hear every once in awhile from [2246], who is about to go back to California. We had a little flurry of excitement because B. F. Phillips started drilling four holes in a line about two miles east of our property. He is reported to have carried one of them down to the Woodbine, which he found to be dry, and now he has stopped his operations, having plugged his hole or holes. No one knows what he intends to do, if anything, and not a word has appeared in the papers about his tests. I have not seen Mrs. [2174] since the early part of the year and the correspondence with Marquess and Myers has died down.

I shall look forward to receiving a report of your Congress and would be grateful for any additional news which you may have.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

[2246] is on his way back to Texas and I thought you would be interested to hear that about seven miles southwest of us the Skelly Oil Company has found oil in the Paluxy, which is taken to indicate the starting of a new field. I have decided to go down next Tuesday and meet […] in order to see what this means for us. Anyway, it makes our situation much brighter and I shall be able to write you more after my trip. My address, as far as I know now, will the … Hotel, …

By the rumors that reach us, your time, as a result of the book, is filled for months in advance, and it must be very gratifying that the book has been so well received. It looks as if the war WOULD come to an end early next year, as, I gather, the readings indicate. Have you ever decided what really happened on June 15th to determine its course? [June 25th? See 3976-28 on 6/20/43.]

This is just a note to send you my best wishes for the winter and to let you know that we are still holding on as best we can to our oil prospects. I have had no more news of Myers or Marquess, although Mrs. [2174] is doubtless in touch with them, and I have written to her to say I have decided to go down. I expect to stay a week or two.

Dear Mr. [2091]:

Thanks a lot for yours of the 29th. What you have to say about the activities in Texas and the goings on there is good. I have been so long getting to answer you, that I felt possibly that I had better mail this on to you at the farm. They won’t know whether you want it forwarded to Texas or not.

I think what happened on June 25 [as mentioned in 3976-28, Par. 9-A] had to do with decisions regarding the labor unions, which is one day going to be a serious problem in this country.

I was in New York on the ninth, and my, what a mob!

R14. 6/10/44 Mr. [2091]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I don’t know whether [2246] has written to you about his recovery or the latest news on our Texas oil lands, but I have been intending to write you for a very long time in case he hasn’t. I went down to Texas this spring on one of those wild goose telegrams and found Myers had linked up with another man named Campen, very much of the Marquess type I think, and they were going to put through a big deal for us. Again, a la Marquess, nothing at all has come of all this so far. Meanwhile, Bobby Manziel put down a test four miles east of us and, according to the electrical test, found three or four zones of porosity. First, he tested the lowest zone, below 8,000 ft. I believe, and, according to reports, got salt water. The other zones will be tested very soon. I have recently been feeling a little pessimistic about our oil prospects but we have still kept up our leases.

Dear Mr. [2091] -

Thanks very much for yours of the 10th. I have been quite anxious to hear about what was going on in Texas, but I haven’t heard from Dr. […] for several months now; and I had wondered what had happened when you went down to Texas.

Well, I know what you mean about the Marquess type, for I had my experiences. It was much more serious to me than I guess it would have been to anyone else.

Yes, we are quite busy. We are expecting a good many people here, even under the present circumstances, for this summer’s Congress.

I certainly miss Hugh Lynn. While we have had a very nice, young man working with us for the last seven or eight months, a young minister, [Harmon H. Bro] it seems we are to lose him now, very soon. He has been called to some church and wants to go on with his studies. I don’t know just how we will get along, but if it is right, we will someway.

I wish that it were possible for you to be with us at this time. I am looking forward to sometime, if I may, spending a week or so at the farm. I hope it can be when your classes are going on. I wonder if such a thing could be possible.

Yes, it looks very much as if this country is going to make the mistake it did before in not putting Willkie, or one of his caliber, in office this year. I don’t know what it will take to wake the people up, but they certainly need it.

Both of our boys are overseas, as you know. We haven’t heard from one of them for about four or five weeks. Hugh Lynn was in England; the other boy in the South Atlantic. He is in defense work with the Signal Corps. We have two grandsons now. One will be a year old the 29th of this month. The other will be two years old the 9th of October. It is mighty nice to have something to hold on to. They are both very fine looking boys. While it makes me begin to feel quite old. Yet, I don’t know that we are any older than we feel and I feel just as if I were twenty-five. However, I know I look different. I am feeling very well right now, thank you.

Nothing special has come through about the war, recently. The only thing - that it will end rather suddenly. When that will be, I don’t know.

R16. 1/12/50 [2091]‘s ltr. to GD:

Dear Gladys:

Since you and Mr. Cayce were so connected up with our oil affairs in Texas, I think I should let you know the latest news on them. As you can imagine, our leases are about to run out, but just the other day, so to speak, […] one of Mrs. [2174]‘s sons, got in touch with the man who said he might like to go into the oil business about which he knows nothing. He is a large investor in one of the big oil companies and would have its protection in anything he decided to do. Anyway he and […] have left for Texas, with others, and have arranged to test out our land with the help of a new fluorescent method. If this method, which is supposed only to tell about big pools of oil, shows positive results, he says he will drill. This was behind my statement in a note to Mrs. [Louie Irene Davis] Davis that in case I went to Texas I might stop over at Virginia Beach on the way down. I suppose that whether I go down or not will be decided in the course of the next week or two. Our lease on the Carolyn Hastings tract runs out next month.

Here’s hoping that something may come of the Texas venture after all!

R17. 8/9/50 Mr. [1561]‘s ltr. to HLC: “I never had any doubts about there being a pool under those 1400 acres near Tyler, Texas! They had indications at the given depth but didn’t do anything about it. The BIG POOL is on a lower horizon - 7000 to 7500 and THE OIL IS THERE. Sometimes I feel as though someone threw mental and emotional monkey-wrenches into the picture and the gremlens did the rest. R18. 11/20/52 Mr. [1561]‘s ltr. to HLC:

Dear H L -

Hope all is well with you and yours. Am always expecting to drop down someday but some things seems to preclude. One day

A friend of mine just returned from an extended trip through the south-west and reports that Rudolph Johnson encountered many delays in his drilling. Lost tools - jammed casing etc etc but - will carry on! Also reports that the Humble Oil (I believe) got possession of the Carmerson (Smith Co., Tex.) acreage and all adjoining leases and had proven the large area via 4 successful wells! I do not know the inside story or how we lost out. This friend reports that this oil company offered your father one million dollars for the area and that he advised the acceptance but the others refused. Internal wrangling etc etc. Also that the driller reported a considerably greater depth than was actually obtained. This because the principles continually balled him out for the slow progress. This all is what he HEARD. He is absolutely honest. Neither he nor I know if the reports have any substance. What do YOU know? [H. L., [2091] would know. Here’s an extra copy of this letter, if you need it. I mailed one to Rudy. GD]

I wrote some time since to Rudolph J but have had no reply. Guess he’s pretty busy.

In any event - if the report of oil under [2246]‘s land is true, it is but another example of the accurate fore-telling via your father. Good.
